From a Dec. 2014 article- The Saints helped to paint themselves into a salary cap corner by handing out sky high contracts to a handful of players. These 7 accounted for 92.8 million of the 2015 cap, and all but Brees and Byrd are gone. Four of 'em were highest paid at their position, and Brees and Grubbs were #2. Most of the legendary qb's didnt finish wit hthe team they were known for. Montana, Farve, Peyton etc. I wouldnt be surprised if this was Brees last year and they blew it all up and started over.

Profootballtalk's Mike Florio reports the Saints and Drew Brees are "close" to agreeing to an extension.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported Monday that Brees was looking for a four-year, $100 million deal. And Brees reportedly thinks he can play five more seasons, and was looking for $85 million guaranteed on his next contract. Brees is 37, but he's still playing at an extremely high level. Taints were going to have $29 million in cap space next year. After this extension gets done, that cap space vanishes and more opportunities like Josh Sitton will slip thru their fingers, because they don't have the cap space to fit a $6 million salary

Come on man don't make our forums look retarded. Brees wants money, but why else play for that disaster team? He has zero chance of winning anything anymore staying there, whereas Cam does. Also, Brees may be greedy and old but he has won a super bowl and is future HOF and is no where near as physically gifted as Cam, that's skill. Cam is not on his level at this point.

 

Just trying to explain why people love him more and putting respect and logic without homer glasses into the conversation. As far as being a better teammate I can't answer.
