Drew Brees wants to retire a Saint. But he wants 4 years/100 million dollars from the Saints.

From a Dec. 2014 article- The Saints helped to paint themselves into a salary cap corner by handing out sky high contracts to a handful of players. These 7 accounted for 92.8 million of the 2015 cap, and all but Brees and Byrd are gone. Four of 'em were highest paid at their position, and Brees and Grubbs were #2. Great example of what happens when you 'pay the man'. You sink the team.  http://grantland.com/the-triangle/new-orleans-saints-salary-cap/

Position Player Rank 2015 Cap Hit
QB Drew Brees 2 $26,400,000
TE Jimmy Graham 1 $11,000,000
G Jahri Evans 1 $11,000,000
G Ben Grubbs 2 $9,600,000
ILB Curtis Lofton 4 $9,000,000
OLB Junior Galette 1 $15,500,000
S Jairus Byrd 1 $10,300,000

Hate to say it.. Cause he got them a ring..

I wonder if their two 1st-team All-Pros (Brees was 2nd-team) and their six other Pro Bowl players would agree with you that it was all because of Brees that they got a ring?

Follow-up question: If it was all Brees, why haven't they won more than one Super Bowl since Brees has been in New Orleans?

Profootballtalk's Mike Florio reports the Saints and Drew Brees are "close" to agreeing to an extension.
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported Monday that Brees was looking for a four-year, $100 million deal. And Brees reportedly thinks he can play five more seasons, and was looking for $85 million guaranteed on his next contract. Brees is 37, but he's still playing at an extremely high level. He's long said he won't negotiate into the season, so Sunday would appear to be the deadline. Sep 6 - 8:44 PM

Taints were going to have $29 million in cap space next year. After this extension gets done, that cap space vanishes and more opportunities like Josh Sitton will slip thru their fingers, because they don't have the cap space to fit a $6 million salary

Somebody please tell me why Brees is a better teammate than Cam and why everyone loves him more? Brees doesn't care about putting his team in cap hell while Cam signs a very team friendly deal.

Come on man don't make our forums look retarded. Brees wants money, but why else play for that disaster team? He has zero chance of winning anything anymore staying there, whereas Cam does. Also, Brees may be greedy and old but he has won a super bowl and is future HOF and is no where near as physically gifted as Cam, that's skill. Cam is not on his level at this point.

Just trying to explain why people love him more and putting respect and logic without homer glasses into the conversation. As far as being a better teammate I can't answer.

Who loves Brees other than Saints fans?

On pace to eclipse every meaningful career QB stat there is; finished 1st in passing in 2015 and only threw 11 picks despite only having the 24th-ranked rush offense; has passed for 5,000 yards 4 times. All other players in NFL history have COMBINED for 4 such seasons. What's to like?

    • To be fair, I kind of like Bo but he was BAD this past weekend.
    • What I noticed was Tmac running free on deep routes a lot. Can we just get PJ or Hooker to throw go routes on every play for the rest of the season? It would be more exiting than this current mess.
    • We're all aware of the frustrating Week 1 for Carolina, but there's reasons to see Arizona as a possible get-right game. While this will be Zona's home opener (requiring the team to travel out west), they were barely able to hold on to a lead against the hapless Saints who got a chance to tie the game up with 2min left that ended at the ARI 18. Kyler Murray was 21/29 with 2 passing TDs but for only 163yds (5.6yd AVG) and a QBR of 50.9 (RTG 108.8). He was also sacked five times for 33yds. Meanwhile, Spencer Rattler went 27/46 and was sacked just once for 6yds. Kyler also carried the ball seven times for 38yds. James Conner struggled to get going (12 carries, 39yds) but Trey Benson had a good day thanks to a 52yd scamper (8 carries, 69yds). Arizona has weapons in MHJ and McBride, but the CBs have been playing well enough for McBride to be the true focus of the defense. MHJ had a good game though against the Saints, so hopefully Jaycee + Mike Jackson can disrupt that connection. The Cardinals also aren't a disciplined team... with an opportunity to put the Saints away they gave up a TFL and a holding penalty before having the field goal attempt blocked. Their OL suuuuucks at run blocking and got better pass blocking from their TEs in week 1 than they did from any OL except for Paris Johnson Jr. Isaiah Adams and Hjalte Froholdt especially had issues as did Jonah Williams. If the Panthers' revamped DL can't get pressure against them it might be worth giving the alarm a pull.
