What Broncos Fans are Saying...

Every week during the NFL season I bring to you viewpoints from the Carolina Panthers’ opposition. This week, what Broncos are saying about this Thursday night’s game against the Panthers.

On being home dogs to the Carolina Panthers

From Mile High Report:  “Despite being the reigning Super Bowl champions and coming off a two touchdown dominating performance over the Panthers in February, the Broncos must once again earn the respect they just can’t seem to get from anywhere outside of Denver.”

The problem here is that this Broncos team is very different from the Broncos team of February. Since then, they have experienced quite a bit of turnover to their starting units. Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak spoke spoke about that recently.

“”We are a different team. I can’t sit there and tell you the amount of turnover we had in our starters.” Kubiak said on a conference call Sunday. “I don’t even know. It’s probably somewhere in the seven or eight range, somewhere in there, then obviously the quarterback position. You know what, there was going to be change. We have changes on our defensive front. We’ve got some changes on our offensive line. So like I said, this is a new season. It’s got to go find its identity and you’ve got 16 opportunities to do that. This is the first one this week so we’ll just try to stay focused on that” Kubiak added.

In short, you cannot simply take away 9 starters from a team and expect the same product to take the field. Especially so when one of those starters is the quarterback. The truth is no one has any clue on how the Denver Broncos will perform this year. There is a chance they could be better, but an even greater chance that they will regress.

ON BEATING THE CAROLINA PANTHERS THURSDAY NIGHT

Denver Broncos fans know their entire season hinges on second year player Trevor Siemian. Although Siemian has looked good this preseason, there is still so much for him to prove.

A fan comment underneath this article made me smile. “Our qb sh*t the bed against them last time and we still beat the hell out of them. Score was closer than the game ever was. We beat them going away if simmy looks even half way capable.”

I don’t seem to remember the Broncos “beating the hell out of” the Panthers. Considering the amount of needless turnovers the Carolina Panthers gave away in the Superbowl, I would lean more towards the Panthers beating the sh*t out of themselves. They picked a terrible day to play their worst game of the year. Perhaps the stage was just too big for the Panthers. But that was last year, time to move on.

I really believe the Panthers had their worst game of the season in the Super Bowl. Some of it was the Broncos defense but most of it was on the Panthers. They rarely dropped passes and fumbled yet did both. The special teams mental error where they thought the Bronco called for a fair catch but didn't which set up a FG. Panthers outgained them significantly. If last year Broncos played the Panthers 5 times they would have lost 4 of them (assuming an impartial referee crew).

I fully expect the Panthers to win Thursday.

Local sports radio guys watched the Panthers vs. Patriots third preseason game and have been downplaying Carolina ever since. One quote that sticks out: "They aren't the worldbeaters everyone thinks they are." I get that they have to pander to the fanbase for ratings, but ffs...

As far as the average fan, it's nearly impossible to have an even-keeled conversation about football with them. They only have two arguments: (1) VON MILLER!!!11!!!1 and (2) Cam is a douchebag.

Hopefully Shula smarten up for this game to give Remmers some help vs Von. Also Cam really hurt them in the SB when he tucked and scrambled. Hopefully he will adjust too.

Offensive I think they will be stagnate as hell. Peyton played like trash but he still got them in to the right plays. He just couldn't make the plays. No way in hell this new kid can make the adjustments to out play our D.

God i I hope we beat the brakes off them.

    • Yeah, I could jump right into the unbelievable Bryce debate now that some people are trying to flip the script because Bryce Young has, at most, a handful of decent games as a pro, but that's going to work itself out. Suffice it to say that I've seen better QBs (with an s) in a Panthers uniform, and I've certainly seen better QBs be drafted while we're playing around with Bryce, one of them who beat the crap out of us already this season... Let's forget about Bryce (and his markedly underwhelming play since he's been here); I think that most sane fans will agree that drafting him was an error, but it happens. Sure, it doesn't happen to the tune of King's ransom---including your main receiver---but it happens. You bet, you lose. Speaking of receivers...and betting and losing... Oh, man, we drafted Xavier Legette. Yes, just like with Bryce, I've entered "the dark side." Some Huddlers were telling us from the beginning, and they were right. But, I'm not apologizing for waiting to see what a guy's got before making my decision on him. X was a one-year wonder at South Carolina who parlayed some really nice production that season, a great personality and thick country accent, into becoming a first round pick (but only in Carolina). For Dan Morgan and company, He was a big swing that has turned into a big whiff (and I can still feel the ill breeze from that one). Sh¡t happens, right? Well, not so fast. Ladd McConkey was the decidedly more polished receiver who was literally ready to hit the ground running as soon as stepping onto the field as a pro. Ladd was never the biggest guy (though not the smallest), but he was the guy that could run routes, always seemed to get open---no question---and had the same speed as X, but with legit quickness and nuanced shake and bake. But Dan chose the project. He chose the guy where the game speed looks more like a tractor trailer than a 5.0 mustang. Look, I've supported X (just like Bryce) many many a day, but no more. Now I'm not saying that I won't root for the guy. Just like with Bryce, he seems like a great kid. But as far as giving excuses for the kid, and, perhaps more importantly, waiting for some miraculous breakout, I'm done with that. I've seen enough. You don't draft a project for a project. And yes, Bryce had proven to be a project after his first season. In my mind, drafting a supposedly number one receiver that needs lots of development for a starting quarterback that needs immediate help to try and further his development is not going to lead to good things. Pick the surest guy. Or at least pick the one who appears to be the surest guy, because picking can be tricky... especially when you're too busy tricking yourself.
    • Winning ain't gonna make my eyes lie to me. Context matters, and it will always matter in the game of football.
    • That TD pass to Legette against Miami. Elite. The play where Bryce rolls right to buy time until Tet can reverse field.  Bryce pumps as multiple defenders close in.  He barely gets it away before he takes a big time hit.  Beautiful off platform throw and great catch by Tet.   The second TD to Tet against Dallas where Bryce dips and turns his shoulder in to evade the pass rusher.  Resets and finds Tet in the end zone. Dude embodies the Keep Pounding mantra.
