Every offensive drive: Reality vs Huddle Bias

Second guessing offensive play calling is the easiest thing any dipshit fan can do.
I'm getting so tired of hearing people cry for screens and slants, even though: we try them occasionally and they rarely work due to the crowded box, and never mind the fact we run an EP offense because we have the prototypical QB for it.

I hardly blame Shula but there were stretches in the game were all we did was run, run, pass which completely got Cam off rythem.

 

Out of all those plays you listed the shovel pass to Tolbert was terrible call to begin with. And  the 3rd and 1 call was also dumb. Just let Cam sneak it

Appreciate the effort OP but you're never going to change some of these guys minds.  We had the #1 offense last year and Shula still sucked.  Probably best to ignore those people.

The only issue I had was that we didn't use enough slants or screens, just like the SB, to try to slow down that pass rush.  I kept waiting for a Ginn bomb to spread them out but the rush was too good.  I just wanted some slants.

But I seriously still blame the refs for most of this, killing momentum and letting Cam get knocked around the whole second half definitely didn't help.

Shula is basically the Ted Ginn of OC's.   He's going to have some really good plays, most of the time, but when it's bad, it's going to be real bad.   This is just the risk and we know what we get with both at this point.

1.The Tolbert shovel pass was kin to a screen play.

2. Cam stuffed on outside run (not the middle as you say) due to failed blocking by Daryl Williams.

3.  Quick Slant to Benjamin intercepted. 

4. Quick play to 3 available targets, just not quicker than Ware was to Cam as he got to him for the sack in a hair over 2 seconds.

5. 20 yards of penalties killed the drive on another. Face mask and false start. None can be blamed on Shula.

6. Excellent drive with limited time, gets in FG range. Gano misses kick.

So we literally attempted everything except a "sweep run or counter run" that you asked for on every stalled drive.

 

 

You make a few assumptions there and ask yourself in number 1 why Tolbert is in that grouping

You and I can agree to disagree.  

The OC is just in charge during game day.   He is also in charge during practice. There is the business of packages, teaching players how to execute those packages , and the player  personnel packages In those groups.  if I see Tolbert, arguably our slowest back, on another hit the hole quick play, I will literally throw up.  

One thing is certain, there is film in the NFL, keep doing the same 10 plays and see if the better teams don't catch up

I have no problem with Shula other than the lack of quick slants to keep defenses from pinning their ears back and going after Cam because they know he's going to hold on to the ball long enough for deep routes to develop. Give Byrd a jersey on game-day and run him across the middle. He has the speed, toughness and hands to make a difference even if its 1 or 2 catches a game.

That's pretty much every time Tolbert touches the ball, anyone else probably would've gotten more.

It's also so similar to the play he fumbled on in the super bowl.

The safety made a strong play in both instances, but it's what I keep saying: any RB could've gotten as far as him and at least has the potential to go farther. Fozzy pretty much proved that in the game. 

This team's lack of spark from another RB hurts.

It worked well last season with Cotchery.
