Cam Newton Is Just A Football Player

I have to say this cause every single day I read a Cam comment somewhere. My title may come off as apathetic during these times, but that's what he is

He's not the Mayor of Charlotte, he's not the governor of NC, he's not a Senator, and he's the not the President of the United States

Those are the people, people should be talking about and criticizing. Those are the elected officials. Nobody voted Cam Newton into the NFL to discuss social problems. He's never taken an oath. He's just giving his opinion and I see people hanging on every single word he says. People say he shouldn't talk at all, he would have been criticized for that too. Remember Michael Bennett called Cam out for not speaking out back in July? He is in a lose-lose situation and that's sad people aren't directing their attention those that create the policies that change your local city, state, and overall country

So my personal opinion is on Sunday, I think Cam Newton should be in the locker room during the National Anthem. I think the organization from Jerry, Dave, Ron should make it clear they made the decision to not involve Cam Newton in a touchy subject right now and it goes back to when I said Cam is on the front line left to hang dry. At times he should be shielded off. My personal opinion

Cam is a black man, before he's anything. Here's the problem: the organization pulling strings and deciding for him to not be involved in these talks but when he's asked, he can't give a true Cam answer because the organization has decided for him that he will not get too involved in this. I'm aware he doesn't bring race up in relation to his career, but he's a black man who has children and a family. I'm very sure he has a strong opinion on what is happening, as he mentioned it the other day. He is in a lose-lose situation but if the organization cared or was Team Cam, they wouldn't have decided for him. Because that has caused a mess within itself. I can't imagine being him right now. Conflicted at every angle.

I say this with the utmost respect. I believe that would be the stupidest idea in the world and would not only open him up to attacks (maybe even physically), but could potentially induce MORE riots.

And another thing... the team shouldn't MAKE him do anything. He, as a grown man, should do whatever he seems fit without fear of any recourse. I do agree with your first point. He's a football player. Let him do that. Expect nothing else. But appreciate anything he does for the city.

I think he's just smarter than you, honestly.

While I love Cam, I doubt that. I highly doubt that. The fact of the matter is the organization has decided for him that he will stay out of it. He's trying to please his community and his organization. Like I said before more of him will start to come out in these talks. And the white people will be mad again. He can't win for losing. But you guys like it. You guys like him to be quiet on anything that makes whites in general uncomfortable.

Well Cam is the one that came out with the "I'm a black qb" and the Ali shirt like he was this rebel and then when poo hit the fan he flips the script. That makes him smarter? In what sense? Or does his comments just make you more comfortable because he's the qb on the team you root for?

@Jeremy Igo, a guy who actually has inside access to the team and has, in fact, actually talked to Cam Newton, has stated that nobody in the Panther organization is controlling what Newton is saying. Head Coach Ron Rivera, himself a minority, has said the same thing.

Again, why should I believe what you suggest over someone who's actually been in contact with the people involved?

Within this statement is the reason we're not going to get past the barriers that are currently present, anytime soon.

The problem with Cam is that he's not giving his true feelings hence his "too real" comment. I'd much rather him remain silent then just say some poo he thinks people want to hear.

This is it. This is 100% it. You can look and even listen to what he says and you can tell a Cam thought from some contrived, manipulated PR focus group comment.

    • Baker was traded before he played his 5th year.  RGIII was cut before playing his 5th year. So it is rare but it happens.
    • Time to hit 4000 yards and 30 TDs (including rushing). I don't care about INTs anymore. That's a big part of the problem. He plays uber conservative until the game is on the line. Playing not to lose, instead of playing to win. Time to let it friggin rip from the get. The team can win with a pick or 2 if he has 3-4 TDs. Stop playing scared.  But to be fair, his WRs have not been great. You all can bash about 1st round picks and O-line cap all you want.  Chuba as your #1 RB his entire career.  Adam Thielen as your best WR for 2 of 3 seasons is ridiculous. Then a rookie as your best in the 3rd season. Legette is not a 1st round talent. Probably closer to a 4th if you compare him to Brazzel this year. Coker has been a walking injury report. Nothing else to really speak of at WR or TE. Jimmy Horn has potential, but he is not an NFL starter yet. Oline has been better as run blockers than pass blockers. Ickey has always been so-so as a pass blocking LT. Center has been a revolving door for 3 years. Damien Lewis has been as marketed. Hunt is a great run blocker but an ok pass blocker - when healthy. Moton has been solid at RT. Biggest problem with the oline has been depth. When someone went down, their replacement became a glaring weakness. Overall a good but not great unit the last 2 years. 2023 was a ish show. Nothing else to say.  Not one game breaker, take it to the house offensive weapon since DJ Moore. Hopefully we get a little of that from Brazzell.  Either way, in his 4th season, it doesn't matter. You have to be able to overcome whatever comes your way. First 3 seasons with a young supporting cast is defendable. Can't use that anymore though. 3rd year in the offense. 3rd year with the same HC.
    • Highest amount of OL salary cap in the league too. The Chiefs are behind us at 2 but we are ahead of them by a cool $23 million. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/position/offensive-line/_/year/2026/table/active/sort/cap_total
