Cam's inner circle has a message for him...

PLAY. MORE. CAREFULLY.

Quote

With Cam Newton sidelined for Monday night's game because of a concussion, multiple people in his inner circle have counseled the Carolina Panthers quarterback to play more carefully, sources told ESPN.

Those close to Newton have urged him to get down, out of bounds or into the end zone quicker than he did last week, when he allowed the Falcons a free shot at him, and he has acknowledged the message and said he will do a better job of protecting himself when he can, sources said

Cam's first instinct is to evade the pass rush instead of toss the ball away. He's had great success with that in the past but with every hit he's going to hesitate more and get worse. He shouldn't be looking to scramble anymore unless it's a designed run or the open field is presented to him on a silver platter. I'm not sure why, but it seems like he doesn't have designated zones to throw it away to on the field. He kinda just tosses it wildly and you're prone to grounding like that.

Unfortunately the offense has to evolve. We can't expect the headfirst diving over the line, powering through defenders Rookie Cam anymore. I feel confident about DA because I know his mobility can't be used as a crutch in the gameplan.

This is why as much as our OL is a definite concern, moving forward after this season, we have to do everything we can to acquire a bruising RB in the mold of Stewart to take pressure off of Cam. We've used Newton as a literal battering ram for years. This staff/front office has frankly gotten way too comfortable, and lazy with just expecting Cam to pick up the slack in that regard. They are to blame for him getting hurt ultimately.

This is a large and overlooked problem and I've said it many times, this offense is not sustainable as Newton ages

nor is jordan gross the left tackle anymore

nor will they ever put Newton under center with it ever being anything other than a run that makes play action impossible to sell

the NFL has caught up with the panthers  whether Rivera and Shula believe it or not and unless two decent tackles fall out of the sky this offense needs to revamped and Newton needs to learn and embrace it or he will not make it in the league to 30

then  again, maybe he doesn't want to make it past 30

I said this as well. They needed a RB this draft and a decent blocking fullback or TE this draft that could line up in the backfield

and What they did was nothing. Not in the draft. Not in FA

it is mind boggling they thought they were set with Stewart and Tolbert or the people they have as backups

this  is at gelttlemans feet

Things change in a hurry.

Last year Carolina gave up 33 sacks for the ENTIRE  year. Already given up 13 in 4 games.

You can't run as a qb for over 5 yrs and not expect some residual effects negatively.

Every facet of this team and yes even the mighty Cam need to always adapt and find ways to stay in the game.

This just shows you how hard it is to have sustained success and be on the right side of trends.

It would not shock me at all if the Vikings won the whole thing with journeyman Bradford because a great defense and solid offense is the way to go.

Just win tomorrow night or look towards the draft.

I am not trying to pile on

i am just a long term season ticket holder and I have seen this show before

if he can trade a 4th for a punter and waste 3 draft picks on questionable CB  talent not to mention a DT that was to me a luxury he could have  done a package to get a decent tackle to keep his 100 million dollar qb upright

Buyer's remorse is real. You can't know until a few games if someone or something is working.  Took Norman a couple of years to shine.

It's a catch 22 as a fan. On one hand you have to be patient and take the long view and on the other you want to win every week.

It seems like the people taking a reasonable approach to this current situation outnumber the hooligans running back and forth screaming aimlessly. But the Gettleman knob slobbering, and worshipping needs to end. He has made good moves for us, but there have also been questionable ones or lackthereof this offseason that have directly led to our struggles.

He always protects himself.... he just had a random ass moment of poor judgement that got his ass popped. He protects himself better then anybody else I've seen, but with his physical abilities, there is going to be bigger and harder collisions, and he already knows it, don't see why people act like this is something new

    • There is a Grand Canyon-sized chasm between your opinion and the opinions of most former player hockey guys who do this for a living.
    • I can only imagine the **** eating grins on the committee right now. "Oh, Bama didn't deserve it? Oh, Miami didn't deserve it? Suck it, haters!" lol
    • To say that, is gaslighting, because it isn’t true. I mean, maybe one or two people do that but it isn’t the predominant behavior. Even Frank has given him credit. I think particularly the Rams game. A couple of glowing posts.   I know I have. Gotta be honest about it because if you aren’t it undermines what else you say.  But the degree of how far I go with credit, in terms of it being a projection of future performance? Not very far. Acknowledge it, but require more of it. There is a lot of bad play to offset.    I tried to remain passive while the last 9 games (post ankle injury) played out. It is just really hard when the lows won’t go away. I failed. As high as a couple of those highs were, there isn’t enough.    I know it is premature to just say I want to move on, made my decision after 6 of those games ended up pretty much really good or not good enough, but I have had enough of being patient and letting him show the reality either way.  So in my view, he Could still validate himself to a decent degree if he smokes the last three starts. But also in my view I don’t expect to see it. Maybe one more high quality start, would be my expectation. So yes he could still somehow justify having the job next year. If that happened I still wouldn’t have much faith given the last three years and all that has transpired. Again, there is a lot of bad play to offset.
