I'd be a little happier about that third if we were picking real winners after the second round. Although right now I feel like the only thing we're getting is rookie quarterbacks having breakout games, and divisional opponents setting records against our secondary.

You complained we didn't get anything for our departing DBs. I showed you we are probably going to get a 3rd.

 

So you then complain that we don't draft well after the 2nd round. Which isn't really true. Turner, and Williams, are a 3rd, and 4th that are playing well right now. Klien is a 5th that has played well when given an opportunity. Too early to tell about Whorley, but from what I have seen, he has had his moments of good play.

 

Alexander was a 4th that was on the verge, then he smoked his way off the team. We have drafted some fine players after the 2nd round.

I already knew we got only a third round pick for an All-Pro cornerback, that's not news to me. And in my opinion our drafting past the third round is barely passable other than the linebacker position. Also Alexander was Hurney pick.

First you said past the 2nd round, now it's the 3rd round. I know lots of folks around here are not happy with how the draft has gone lately under Gman. But this team is in better shape that is was just 3 short years ago. Gman, IMO has drafted good talent. So I will buck the trend and be happy with how we have drafted lately.

I wonder what the meeting room was like? If you are going to let a sort of proven NFL CB go, who is very young and has had his hands on the ball with turnovers, why not try to get at least a pick for him? Even a late rounder for a year or years down the road is better than nothing.. Must of been some high emotions?

I meant second round. One third round pick that was great was Trai Turner, worth much more than the third we've paid for him, but I feel like no players we take with the extra pick next years draft will be close to what we lost with Josh Norman. Especially since we had to wait a year for compensation.

It's possible we get another Trai out of the draft, but I have a feeling we'll  use the new compensatory rules and trade the pick to move up and grab whomever Gettleman wants in the first. The last couple years I think the players we've really wanted in the first were snatched up, and I have a feeling Gettleman is tired of plan B.
