Short thinking of wins. Contract on the back burner...

top dawg

According to David Newton, Kawann "Short (is) more concerned with wins than sacks or long-term deal."  According to Short he's "playing good," while Ron Rivera referred to Short's play as "solid."

It really is hard to argue that Short's play hasn't been solid, but of course the real question is whether his play this season supports his demand for a top contract at his position. He knows that he needs to "correct" some things, and that he will "get to it," and he'll let all the contract stuff take care of itself.  He sounds like he expects it all to fall into place once his play improves, but we'll see if that turns out to be the reality.

One thing that has been a question here, is whether Short is really being double-teamed as much as some would have us believe. Rivera basically says that Short is absolutely being doubled, and that it's not just him.

Quote

“It’s hard." Rivera said. “One of the things, if you watch the tape, is how many times he does get doubled, how many teams are protecting. That back, when he goes through the middle, he’s looking for KK and chipping him on the way out, too.

“It’s not like he’s getting the free runs like he had last year. That’s the hard part. People are keeping those tight ends in, so they’re doubling both of the DTs. We’ve been approached a little differently this year."

So, perhaps it's not as cut-and-dried as many people believe about Short, sacks, or the rest of the line.  Perhaps untrained eyes are missing something (or not).  Be that as it may, Short still sounds like he's got dollar signs on his mind to me.

Quote

“I’m confident in myself,’’ Short said. “It’s not really putting nobody to shame. But at the same time, if you know your worth, then you know what’s up."

I guess we'll see what's up beginning with the Cardinals.

KK's play has been solid, and he'll get his mega deal in the offseason. Since Rivera and Cam have arrived, the team has always had long winning streaks during the season. We need to start a streak now, and KK is going to have to be a major force if we're to go on one.

To my naked eye it has. Stats could prove me wrong, tho. *shrugs*

Its not what it was last year but a lot of this bashing on KK seems like your trying hard to justify the Butler pick. We seen about 30 million double team treads I know you can find atleast 1 good play by KK.

Its not like Luke , TD, & Shaq have been perfroming to last year but I dont see any threads about underperformance by Shaq but we all know everyone has their favitorite players.

In my opinion, it all depends upon one's definition of "solid." One thing I will say though is that some of you are acting like he has been "trash," but to me he has been OK, just not the dominant force he was last season. Of course that means I wouldn't pay him anywhere close to what he wants, but "it is what it is." Getty will make that determination.

Regardless of what kind of season KK has, someone is going to pay him top dollar... thats just how the NFL works

If it's going to be the Panthers, he absolutely needs to step it up. Otherwise we had all better hope that Big Vern flashes this second half of the season.

On an off note, I can just see a grinning Dave on the first night of the draft talking about our newly acquired DT after passing on a quality DE (but I'm just admittedly being somewhat facetious).

    • Umm yeah. When did he get it done at the right time? I seem to remember a 4-6 finish and needing Atlanta to win our way into the playoffs but whatever.
    • I mean....no lies detected. See above. We have traded a fortune to draft a guy #1 overall that people have lowered standards for to the point that not playing like Jimmy Clausen and looking like a poor man's Kyle Allen occasionally is worthy of a contract extension making him one of the highest paid QB's in the league. That is cope on steroids.
    • summary: "let's talk about your draft, what did you think about Freeling" Dan:   guys with a huge upside, can come in and compete to start.  High ceiling "he does what for your offense?" Dan:   it's hard to find left tackles, guys that big and athletic.  We have Icky coming off an injury, we signed Walker, I believe your offensive line can never be too strong.  If we're going to win the game, it's gotta be up front on both sides of the ball, so we make a point of emphasis on making both sides of the front as strong as possible. "how many mocks did you see Monro falling to you." Not many times, left tackles are gonna go a lot earlier than when we took him.  We want to add the best player, in free agency or the draft"  that's our philosophy, to get the best players possible. "Hunter and Brazzell." Dan:  we followed the board.  Lee we felt very highly of him , super strong.  Brazzel so flexible and loose, can open the verticle.  Will Lee we held in high regard. "you take a look at your receiver room, Coker, my goodness, your offensive rookie of the year in Tet.  Lost Rico, but there is Jonathan Brooks. " Brooks coming off two knee injuries, he worked his way back, looking great, fully healthy, will help in pass and run game.  Icky, not sure when he's coming back but we're excited about both "plan on extending Bryce" we'll keep talking, will keep internally.  We believe in him, has such a great grasp of Canales and offense, has improved every year. "he's clearly come back from the benching, the arrow is trending up, where does he feel" Bryce knows where we stand with him, when and if a deal gets done, he knows we feel great with him, we'll get something done at the right time. "if this a prove it situation?" everyone in the building has to prove it, has to earn it. Tmac was everything we wanted, his work ethic, he's so big and talented, but he puts the work in, and is a great teammate. "your level of expectation, the building's level of expectation for 2026 "our goal is to win the division every year, we know we have to earn it.  we have to put the work in every day, proving it on the practice field, and our  guys know that." "schedule" we haven't opened at home in 2 or 3 years.  We love prime time games, hope we get some "
