A little perspective...

After work today, I had a though occur to me about out beloved Panthers. I figured I would share that thought and the alternate reality it would represent.

Our Panthers are 3 field goals from being 6-2. seriously, let that sink in...

Week 1, Graham Gano misses a last second field goal that would have won the game in Denver. Week 4, our offense couldn't muster enough to get in field goal position and keep momentum on our side. The Buccaneers received a punt and we never got the ball back. The very next week, our defense couldn't put a lid on Drew Brees when it counted. Saints kicked a field goal and took the win.

If the team could have taken care of business in those three situations, we would be leading the NFC South, even with a loss to the Falcons.

There's one more thing... the team seemed to get demoralized after the loss to Denver. sure, we won the next week but we looked much worse than the team that showed up in Week 1. Had we won in Denver, perhaps we wouldn't have been demoralized. bear with me and follow me down the rabbit hole here. we win in week 1, hand the 49ers a crushing defeat, close out against the Vikings, lose a much closer game to the Falcons, put the Buccaneers away, keep pace and squeak by in New Orleans, and have similar results to what actually happened against the Cards and Rams. we would be sitting at 7-1.

I know... all this doesn't matter because what happened... well it happened. we are at 3-5 now and must continue to dig ourselves out. but I take some comfort in knowing just a few plays could have completely changed the story of the 2016 season. we are STILL good team. we simply have some weaknesses and were demoralized by the week 1 loss.

Keep Pounding Panther Nation. have faith!

I agree I mean a win in Denver and it's a completely different season. No excuses though, this team has the potential to put it together and it starts Sunday against the Chiefs. Cam has not been himself as of lately but once he can start enjoying the game again, the Panthers will start to trend more upwards. If the Panthers can continue to win on Sunday, this team could become a lot more dangerous in the upcoming games. We need to get healthy and start to fire on all cylinders this week. The road only gets more tougher from here on out! Keep Pounding

Our biggest problem this year was a poor FA . In previous years Dave was grade A at finding vet guys that helped . Last off season we didn't replace anyone and we lost a pro bowl CB as well.  Dave has had some really good drafts but next year he is going to have to keep up. With the league in spending .

Regardless of my fandom, the reality/odds of our team making it back to the superbowl, were extremely thin.

Rarely does a team get the good bounces year to year, that good teams need to even get to the bowl. Then there is growing pains, injuries, and sometimes, just bad luck.

That being said, we still have a team that is exciting to watch.

Keep Pounding!!

We can't upgrade from Gano mid-season, but he better have legit competition in camp next year. He's been very inconsistent this season and downright awful in clutch situations.

If Cam had a real OT protecting his blind side we might not need FGs to win. It really all starts up front and we need to get better at T period .

OT and secondary are definitely the biggest issues. OT has been a weakness Cam's entire career.

Good news is there will be a few top T in FA next year. We will see if we spend money there though . If we do it will be the first time in over a decade.

Actually it's the turn over differential that stands out the most to me. Last year our defense would take the ball away and give the offense short fields. Not happening this season.

I think you both have a point, tbh. and your two points go hand in hand. we had Jared Allen and Peanut Tillman last year teaching our boys how to cause turnovers and maintain discipline. we had Josh Norman adding his fire to Luke's and TD's.

I went into this season thinking we had only lost one key starter (Norman). but we lost a whole lot more than that. and yes, Gettleman is partially to blame for not replenishing the leadership core.

Regardless, I think our team is on the right track now. this sunday against a team with a winning record will be a good test to see if we have really turned a corner

Need to get use to the fact that Oher is our LT, until a truly good one falls to us in the draft.

Unless something unforeseen happens.
