You go..
From 6th to 23rd in total yards allowed

From 6th to 28th in total points allowed

After spending 4 out of 5 picks on defense in the spring

AND

Spending 3 of the last 4 first round picks on defense and 3 of the last 4 second round picks on defense.

WITH

A defensive minded head coach.

How is this even possible?

Who's to blame?

Fat Ass Dave Gettleman, who doesn't know how to build a complete team.

I guess Injuries and talent differentials shouldn't be included in these questions of yours, right?

Injuries don't cause that significant of a drop, far more injuries on offense and they haven't dropped as far.

Its not like other teams in the NFL have injuries as well,  Gettleman doesn't know to how build a complimentary roster. He is fixated with 2 position.

Injuries are one thing but how many teams went from allowing no 500 yard games to 3 in one season? That is way more than just personnel.

Well that depends. Do you expect a good Chef to be able to make a bad steak taste good?

People who are shocked just don't quite understand how the NFL works. In any salary cap based league, with the amount of turnover from year to year, it's almost impossible to maintain sustained success when parity runs deep in the culture of our sport. Add to the fact the NFL is the most physically demanding sport in the world and injuries play a huge factor, it's not hard to fathom what has happened to us this year.

The NFL also rewards teams who played poorly the previous year and punishes teams who played great (strength of schedule, draft picks, etc). There's so many contributing factors as to why teams flip flop on a yearly basis, and to be quite frank, that's how the NFL likes it. It keeps interest high, and at the end of the day, generates more money for the league. It's a business at the end of the day, plain and simple.

    • Honestly, it only makes sense if you're trying to chase being the best bad team you can be this year. The number one question we need answered this season is whether or not Bryce is our long-term franchise QB. Trading away a second year WR who was second on the team in catch percentage, first in yards per target, and who clearly outplayed your 1st round pick for a likely one year rental fill in LB is exactly the type of short sighted desperation moves that has made us the worst franchise in the league under Tepper. We gotta stop making these types of moves and just focus on building a good organization and a good roster. Lloyd is a JAG LB another bad team and awful defense is wavering on and a couple of Panthers fans are salivating over him. Oof. We just need to be patient and wait. Definitely make some calls around the league to teams deep at LB and see if there's an opportunity to add one for a late round pick. Definitely shop the waiver wire hard. The reality is that LB is almost certainly going to be a weakness for us this year. We weren't fixing our entire roster in one off-season and we're not fixing an overall weak positional group in late July.  If you trade for Lloyd LB is still a weakness and you've given up a young promising WR who could potentially help you answer the question of whether or not Bryce is that guy. That's bad football business.
    • I think it's because we've had a player to hate on NO (Breese) and Atl (Ryan) while Tampa had Winston who was never really a threat or dislikable like the other 2
    • yeah. it was also reported that Brown was taking it light today because of oblique soreness. Sounds like the 2 of them were a bit too rough with each other for practice.
