First round pick in 2014 was on a receiver, second round pick in 2015 was on a receiver.

You mean we took about the 9th passing catcher at the end of the first round AFTER cutting all of our WRs just that off-season?

You do realize that Newton BEGAN that  season with rookie KB as his No. 1 WR, right?

Smith was cut for reasons other than talent.

Benjamin was taken as quickly as they could have, and he had the second best rookie season after ODB who was never the option.

Again these wr weren't a problem last year. It's almost as if.....there's a different problem.

I'm sorry to break some hearts, but Fiz is right.

We won today because of our defensive depth --- all of those crazy defensive draft picks and the depth in positions, and even the belief that two rookie CBs could eventually work out. That's how the game was won.

A short field for series after series in the first half allowed the team to score points, and that was purely on our defense. And that was Phillip Rivers out there (in one of his worst years, sure) not a Case Keenum or Sam Bradford.

The defense played with fire and like they really were the heir apparent to the 2015 squad.

And then Cam. 10/27 for 160 yards, 1 TD, 1 Int. As quarterbacking in the Carolinas goes, that was very Chris Weinke-esque. 31 yards on the ground doesn't shore that up much either. He was only sacked twice.

14/32 182 yards, 1 TD the week before. 14/29 246 yards, 2 TD before that against the Raiders. 14/33 192 yards, 1 TD against New Orleans. Three games in a row with just 14 completions, followed up today by just 10.

Man, I've been sniped at for saying that Cam isn't playing like Cam anymore, but the stats don't lie.  And either Fiz is completely right (and what he wrote has a lot of merit) or  Cam has just up and given up on the season, and he did it some time ago -- long before we were our of the running.

It sucks to be writing this AFTER a win, but Shula may have to go just simply because last year he took Cam as far as he could. It's going to have to take someone new to reach Cam and drag better mechanics and decision making out of him. If it can't happen, then we're going to be stuck with what Atlanta found itself in a little over a decade ago.

I seem to remember a QB that with a shorten offseason in his first year that threw for well over 4000. Funny how "coaching" and lack of offensive talent has a way eroding Newton's ability as a passer.

Hate to be that guy but you realize offenses that year got off to a record start due to the lockout... defenses caught on later in the season.

Someone could try telling Cam if the open guy is on a short route he doesn't have to throw a 100mph fast ball.

Some touch would go a long way.

Slightly off, those balls look they hurt. Jericho Cotchery called him a human jugg machine. I wouldn't want to be his son playing catch. Geesh.

The Panthers offense is not built to pass the ball 65% of the time while trailing on 40% of their offensive drives.

The read option, Ginn end arounds, QB runs and deep pass deception with Ginn will not be effective in these situations. The Panthers offense was built to bully a defense while playing with a lead. The only way to make that happen is to field a defense that does not consistently give up the lead.
