This is pretty wild.

Investigation leads to firing of radio announcer

Following the Louisville football game on Nov. 12, Wake Forest conducted a thorough investigation to determine if confidential and proprietary game preparation information had been compromised.

The investigation was not limited to the situation with Louisville and was comprehensive in nature, the university said in the release.

According to the release, the investigation determined the following:

Based on emails, text messages and phone records, Tommy Elrod, a radio announcer for Wake Forest football games, provided or attempted to provide confidential and proprietary game preparations on multiple occasions, starting in 2014.

No members of the Wake Forest athletic department, football staff or players were involved in any way in these actions.

Tommy Elrod is an alumnus of Wake Forest and was a member of the football team from 1993-1997. He later was hired as a graduate assistant under Jim Grobe and held multiple positions for 11 seasons. He was not retained by Dave Clawson and joined the Wake Forest IMG Radio Network in 2014 as a football analyst covering Wake Forest football.

Elrod has been terminated immediately from his position at IMG and will no longer broadcast Wake Forest football games. He has been banned from Wake Forest athletics and its facilities.

If this is true, I have to wonder why. Wake has a pretty good defense this year, but their offense died when the starting qb went down with an injury.  Louisville has a Heisman qb and scores a lot of points.  Its baffling

Your screen name tells me you have an interest in this.

If I read right, it was with multiple teams and not just Louisville.

Yeah, I was reading the same thing on the Wake boards.  I still have to ask why? Wake's offense this year makes Shula look like Air Coryell.

Its kind of cool actually.  They were so scared of Wake they had to cheat to beat us.  At least that is what I will be telling all the UNC fans at the office.  God I hope UNC is one of the ones that got ahold of it.  After the academic scandal, that would be the icing on the cake.  Throw in Duke and Christmas comes early this year.  :)

It's been happening since 2014 , not just for this game.

Having lived in Louisville and attended a few games I can't stand that school

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
