Todd McShay: Fournette drops to 7, will be a Carolina Panther.

Fournette is probably going to be very good or great. But I don't think our OL has been good enough and other positions help a lot more like DE or S that could be the picks in the top 10.

Shady, Leveon and David Johnson all came in from 2nd or 3rd rounds. This draft is loaded at RB, there will be studs in the 2nd.

Sure, Elliot has been good for the Cowboys, but I don't think they'd be different if Alfred Morris was running, who had 1600 yards in his rookie year with a rookie QB. You can also look at how Gurley is a fantastic RB but hasn't been able to do anything for like 20 games.

He's about as close as you can get to AP.  And AP had worse injury issues at OU than Fournette has had at LSU.

He's the best talent since AP, but he is not AP- when you look at the film they have different running styles.

An NFL.com writer compared his style to Bo Jackson

I found this to be accurate. Bo was one-of- a-kind with his 4.12 speed but their running styles are similar. Bo's football career ended because of said freaky speed. Yet, Leonard Fournette runs a 4.35, which is impressive in its own right at 225-230 lbs. Check out this Sports Science special on him.

I would have no problem with us drafting Leonard Fournette- he is a freak who will tear up the NFL for whoever drafts him.

I did a lot of research on LF because of all the comparisons to AP, which turned me off from drafting him. To this day I have yet to see anything like APs OU film- it's ridiculous. He's a HOF RB and the best of his generation. But LF can be the best pure runner of his generation, and if that's why people make the comparison, I get it.

People here make a lot of comments about our O-line and that is why we shouldn't draft a premier RB- but when healthy, Norwell, Kalil, and Turner are one of the best interiors in the league. And if LF can be as dominant as AP, there is no reason we shouldn't draft him. I thought it was crazy when AP wasn't taken in the top 5- and we'd be crazy not to take him if he makes it out of the top 5 and somehow falls to us. As heavy this draft is at RB, Fournette might be the best player in this entire draft- he's a transcendent talent. I wouldn't have an issue with us taking Foreman or Chubb later, but if Fournette is there when we pick, that is BPA.

    • Hello, soccer fans [crickets, tumbleweed flies by]. The World Cup kicks off in less than 2 weeks and, well, 🇺🇸USA USA USA🇺🇸 and all. We beat Senegal 3-2 yesterday in a tune-up friendly at BoA, with Christian Pulisic finally entering the scoring column.  How will we do in the World Cup once our tournament kicks off on the 12th? Well, there are 48 teams (assuming Iran is there) and it feels like one of two thing happens: we get grouped for the first time since '98, or we make it to the Round of 16 for the third time in the last four World Cups. I tried out the lottery for an Atlanta game and struck out, so yesterday was as World Cup as I'll get for in-person ($285/ticket for like Norway vs $39/ticket for USMNT right beforehand was a layup).  The U.S. has a travel-heavy schedule in group play, playing in LA, Seattle and LA. Real road warrior mentality being built. Glad the east coast gets worse kickoff times for a NA World Cup than a Qatar World Cup.
    • Well, that's the thing. Drafting players only for their physical measurables as you are suggesting only really happened during 2024, and X unfortunately has become the poster child for that. To be clear, it's not necessarily about drafting RAS over skill, but RAS over NFL-readiness and/or a solid body of work. Lots of players show skill in college, but those skills don't necessarily translate to the NFL for a multitude of reasons. But, getting back to the main point, to be clear, I believe that our FO is still enamored with physical gifts (who wouldn't be?), but now they're letting Dr. Eric Eager's proprietary system--his "secret sauce" prioritize the players that the Panthers draft, and it seems like it weighs not only a solid body of work, relative to a college career of course, but consistent gradual improvement as evidenced by production pretty highly.
    • Its a good article about how pathetically bad our past drafts ('23 and '24) have been. Building the team in '23 since we weren't ready yet and taking your qb in '24 made so much more sense in hindsight. Ladd McConkey over XL is pretty much a given but not sure it does as much to change Bryce's trajectory as the author suggests.  As bad as '23 and '24 drafts were, the '25 and '26 really give me hope.
