Would Eddie Lacy Be Worth a Gamble?

In breezing over the potential FAs over at spotrac, Eddie Lacy's name jumped out on the list of RBs.

He will turn 27 this summer, but when healthy/in shape, is the kind of RB that Carolina prefers. Prior to this past season, he's played a full season and two 15-game seasons, and he's amassed 1100+ yards per season, twice in the past 5 years. I know he looks like the Pilsbury dough boy in the offseason, but he did show up pretty svelte for his standards last year before getting injured.

If we don't draft Fournette, Cook or Foreman, or decide to wait on RB until later in the draft, could Lacy be a good fit beside Cam in this offense?

Weight has been a real issue the past few seasons. He slimmed down quickly this past offseason but then gained a lot of it back throughout 2016. Ended the year not much lighter, if at all, than in 2015.

I'm going to lean no on this. He's decent when skinny, but he's eating himself out of a job. Couple that with Krispy Kreme, Bojangles, Cook Out, and other fast food available in the south, I don't see him staying slim.

Nah, I'm good. We already have Tolbert and we don't even want him.

The answer should be based on whether Stewart is here or not. If JStew is cut loose after failure to renegotiate a new contract, than Lacy may possibly fit as a stop gap. Nobody will sign him to more than a 1 year prove it contract. If JStew is still here we need to get a legit speed back to back him up. The offense needs speed, both at WR and RB, and Lacy does not bring that lol. A guy like Gio Bernard would compliment Stewart very well..

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
