Julius Peppers: A Carolina Tragedy

The tragedy is ungrateful Huddle curmudgeons that revel in revisionist history and  piss on players who didn't have a "clean" break up from the organization, which most times was arguably more of a FO problem than a player problem.

I don't feel the need to be 'grateful' to pro athletes.

why would anyone feel 'grateful' to pro athletes?

i can feel gratitude for teachers, firemen, policemen, pro athletes, never  they are paid handsomely for their work.  The ones who are altruistic are few and far between.   I can appreciate a performance or the hard work to maintain a professional level, but 'gratitude', nope

For the entertainment they provide. For the emotions they make us feel as sports fans. For allowing us to have a hobby that provides passion in our lives and for some an escape from "real world realities".

One of the least educated fan bases in the league. I will see you all at the Julius Peppers statue and jersey retirement ceremony. Can't wait to read all the posts about how Julius Peppers was a Panther legend and how amazing it is to have our first true Panther in the Hall of Fame when the time comes.

HOF yes. Jersey retiring and statue ceremony here, not ever happening.

I guess that's one way to look at it. If I thought of it that way, I would probably really question why I am looking at the game altogether. Honestly, at times I do ponder why people put so much stock into sports in general. We could probably literally sit around for hours over drinks and hors d'oeuvres and discuss it, and never come to a conclusion or agreement, but both be right.

think that it's not only because it is highly entertaining, but also I think that it captures parts of the human spirit, and that as fans we have a way to experience things vicariously that perhaps we may not otherwise without an athlete's talent, effort, time and willingness to put their very bodies on the line so that we can have something to root and cheer for, as well as believe in, etc., etc,

In short, I don't think that it's a stretch to be grateful for athletes and their efforts because it's really an extension of being a fan, and it allows us to experience different aspects of being human and appreciating life.

He was inarguably the 2nd best athlete in the history of North Carolina (gotta go Jordan, obviously).

All y'all kids think that sports started in North Carolina sometime after you were born...

You also got guys with more accolades in their chosen sport than Peppers, like Catfish Hunter, a few NASCAR drivers, Sonny Jurgensen, and even Steph Curry, who isn't quite there yet but who looks like he will be remembered among the all time greats.

Peppers was/is a freak, but hyperbole man...

I have always thought it was going to happen,  but my thoughts were only confirmed this weekend when Scott Folwer implied he would get both honors. Check out his article in last weekends Charlotte Observer. We all know Fowler has an in with Richardson.

The bottom line is that Peppers is the type of player in the twilight of his career that Gettleman covets.

Has nothing to do with this sappy weird love story obsession the fanbase is trying to picture.

Peppers potentially coming back isn't some grand finale homecoming exercise...it would be the equivalent of us bringing in a Jared Allen or Charles Tillman.
