And all that would have been reasonable until.....

Chiefs signed RG Laurent Duvernay-Tardif to a five-year, $41.25 million extension through 2022.

The deal includes $20 million guaranteed. In average annual value ($8.25 million), Duvernay-Tardif's extension makes him the NFL's fourth-highest-paid guard behind Kelechi Osemele, David DeCastro, and Kyle Long. A 2014 sixth-round pick out of McGill College in Canada, Duvernay-Tardif has settled in as a solid-if-spectacular starting right guard in Kansas City. "LDT," as he is nicknamed, earned solid pass-protection grades from Pro Football Focus last year, but struggled in the run game. He turned 26 earlier this month.

When I saw this contract, I knew we were going to have tough time keeping both Turner/Norwell. Just like I knew KK would never sign here long term after seeing  Fletcher Cox sign for 6/103M. But to keep both, we are probably going to have to commit close to 20M to the OG position. That's a tough sell. Love them both which Is why I see both sides of it. Prices are going up. Wait until we start discussing Star. That will get ugly.

We'll see that's not a tragedy or anything...

Still sets Turner up for 10 mil and who knows with Norwell for now.

We have already played our card's correctly on Norwell. The 2nd round tender likely will scare off other teams from making him a large contract offer and send us a 2nd round pick to do so. So odd's are we will get to have him on the books for only 2.75 million this year. Makes more sense to extend him next season and cherish his low cap figure one more year.

He's nowhere  near as good as Norwell, in a similar situation. If you don't think Norwell expects that much, or more, you not being realistic. And getting Trai at 10M would be a steal with the direction salaries are going. Remember, it's almost impossible to franchise tag a G, because the tag is for all OL at around 14,5M. That contract will cost us one of them.

It's not about what I think Norwell expects...it's about what I think Gman and/or the coaching staff thinks or will do.

They are both worth that but players don't always get paid what they're worth...at least here.

Yea salaries are going to be different in the future and I'm not trying to predict the future I'm basing it off of current scale and if salaries increase a % we can just add that to the original thought. I'm not really trying to guess the exact amount just know that one is getting 10 mil at least.

I agree with you. Why do you think I said paying around 20M is a tough sell. One I don't see GM making, at this point.

Also, this is the last time you have leverage over either one to get a discount. Norwell does get 2.75M, and Trai is at 2M. To get paid big, they have to risk their health/level of play for another season. The only way they take less is to sign them before this year and take that risk away. So many angles that this is not a simple yes/no answer that many are making it out to be.

I want the Norwell-Larsen-Turner combo locked up for the next decade

Yes, was glad to see we tendered Larsen today.  His development at C was one of the bigger bright spots of 2016.  I'd like to see how he can develop.  Shows a lot of potential.
