Howard working out for Panthers

After reading through all the articles about him over the past month I am convinced he is the safest pick in the draft. He gets comparisons to Olsen but honestly at this point Howard is likely further along at this point than when Olsen was drafted. If we pick him up we would have a better offense than we had with Olsen and Shockey. Howard talks about how important blocking was to him at Alabama and the emphasis Saban put on strength and blocking given given how much they run. I would actually move up for him before I would move up for Fournette.  Then again I was heavy on the Greg Olsen bandwagon when he was drafted. And don't think we should trade up for anyone from 8. Now 40 is another story.

Who the hell compares him to Greg Olsen?

If it is truly a workout, then it is at Alabama.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe when you bring someone in for a visit, i.e. to the stadium, you cannot put them on the field and work them out. You can meet, do physicals, put them on the chalkboard, etc. but that's it.

And P.S. I would very happy with Howard at 8.

From my understanding that is correct.

Much emphasis on Fournette out of nowhere. Saying we have 'insane' TE depth.

Smokescreens on top of smokescreens. Wouldn't be surprised if Howard is truly the guy the Panthers are gunning. Would not complain one bit either.

Like Fournette as a runner but I think Howard would have more of a impact simply because we have Greg Olsen.

There is a possible scenario DG moves back up in the 1st again after th 8th pick.

Fournette / OJ Howard!

Yea no way that would happen but its a nice thought. Both players will be gone by 15.

I want Howard over Fournette. The closer we get to the draft, the less I want a RB in the top 10.

TEs last in this league way longer than RBs, the wombo combo of Olsen and Howard would allow us to run WAY more 2 TE sets with a threat on either side of the line, it would also help open up running by adding another above average blocker into the mix, and yet another safety blanket for Cam to throw to if Olsen is double covered.

If Fournette is the pick over Howard, I'll honestly be bummed because I think that Howard would benefit our offense in more diverse ways.

And there's the rub isn't it?

By "evolve", do Rivera and Shula mean more diverse?

Or just more and more running by the running back?

We shall see.  I have my suspicions.

In all honesty, the fact that they are bringing Howard in, presumably after Gettleman has watched tape of his top defensive prospects, leads me to assume that maybe G-man isn't quite sold on the prospects that he believes may be on the board. That, and the fact that he's doing his due diligence.

I look for him to possibly talk or do something with Corey Davis also, though it will obviously be late in the game due to the receiver's situation.

    • That's true. I did actually mean the FO but that's a fair point.
    • A guy like Jones at average pay is going to not work out IMO. The 20 million difference to spend elsewhere is too large of a hurdle when the QB plays good but not carry the team good. They are in the sweet spot currently at cost to value with him. Darnold is pretty much the same. Good in a limited role but lean on him and he will fold. Tua didn't beat good teams when it had to be on his back to be the difference, and that was true when his team was stacked. All of Murray's talent has resulted in 1 winning season for them and 1 wildcard loss. The NFL has an overpaying mediocre QB issue. At the right price it's not an issue but can be a positive. It inevitably leads to a worse roster which becomes a poo show. NY gave up their RB because they paid Jones and proved that. The first is most likely leading to the second. Baker is bucking that trend but he was always the best of any of that group, even if his time here was pretty much the worst setup possible.
    • If you only factor passing, there is a VERY mild argument Dalton is more efficient but it's ignoring the threat Cam was as a big play literally every snap. With his feet OR through the air. Dalton was never that type of player. I would say Dalton over 200 is a very safe bet.
