The McD/Bills/Beane Conspiracy Has Gone National

LeBatard just covered it as a topic on Highly Questionable.  And they didn't even try to tip-toe around it, as it now does appear to be pretty evident.  He closed the segment by saying how absurd it was that their GM essentially hired the coach, only for the coach to gain complete power over the FO, then wait to fire the GM (and the entire scouting department) that hired him until after the draft so he wouldn't give up confidential information regarding the draft, all while using our Assistant GM to give him OUR confidential draft info.

Overall, I'm pleased with the way the draft played out but, if true, dude is a traitor.

I don't think this is real...just can't see it happening in the NFL.

someone called into The Opening Drive on NFL Radio this morning from SC, talking about "Billy" Beane (the caller said this) giving the Panthers info to the Bills.  the hosts shot it down immediately saying that it was ridiculous, but now ESPN (TMZSports) is reporting it as true.  seems like they heard the show this morning and ran with it; who knows.  i figured some huddler called in from SC.

Meh, you know info sharing goes on in this league. It's incestuous. Players share info. Scouts share info. Coaches share info. In the end we got some good players.

I think this may be our most productive draft since Star and KK came on board.

Think we get at least 3 starters out of this draft, and possible 2 on opening day.

I really don't think Beane gave up any information.  What's there as circumstantial evidence relies on assumptions that were already painfully obvious to anyone who was paying attention.

If you had someone you were close with take over another team, promise you their GM position, with no real timetable on when you would be promoted with your current team, would you not pass along the info you've gathered in your current position to set yourself up nicely once you accept the open GM position with the other team?  And as most competitors think, if you really feel this is your one shot at your dream job, do you care what it costs?  Your reputation?  What does it matter how you got there if once you get there you kill it and hold the position down for the rest of your career?

I don't think it's that crazy... I think they are just trying to quickly hire him to sweep it under the rug and shut people up.

Correlation doesn't necessarily equal causation. Yeah, it looks questionable on the surface, but gotta remember McD is largely a product of the Gettleman-era Panthers. He has a better idea of who we're going to like than anyone in the league not currently employed by the Panthers and being a product of us, its logical to conclude that he's probably going to like some of the same prospects. I'm sure getting ahead of us was a primary driving factor of those trades, but I doubt it was due to any Beane conspiracy. That's a career ender for Beane if word got out about that.

Well most people wouldn't do that because it's very scummy. The fact that the GM was fired right after the draft is pretty classless for an organization.

Yeah, but usually it's not as specific as who they have on their board where and what pick they plan on taking them with.  And not all info is good info...  I just heard this morning that Chicago was actually stringing along another team about trading back to keep them from trading up above them, all while fully planning on doing the trade with the Niners.  What makes this so different in my eyes are that it appears the information the Bills had was very specific, and if it really played out as the assumed conspiracy theory would have us believe, then Beane used information strictly meant for our organization for personal gain AND to improve another team's roster in the process.

IF this is true, either way, we had a back up plan and to see how the draft shaked up. I think we came off better. Maybe my opinion is becuase I thought Zay Jones was a bit overrated and I has Samuel in a higher regard.

These type of things happen either way. When players leave for other teams especially within the division. You think Ginn and Klein won't give the Aint's all the info they can? Yeah, they will.

I also realize that this is a little different since Beane is still in the organization. I just can't picture him literally black balling himself this way though. If word gets out and it was true he just screwed up his own career. Either way, we came away with a really great draft.

    • I see Bryce's development this way: He improved when his supporting cast improved.  TMac and Dowdle saved his arse last year, but in fairness, most good QBs have good WRs and good RBs--and good OLs.   The 2025 OL underperformed, actually. They were above average, but they should have been elite if you consider the salary cap.   As soon as we signed Lewis and Hunt, I started thinking, "That's not sustainable.  With Ickey about to get paid a LT salary, Moton and Hunt grabbling $50m per season combined, and Lewis around $17m--that would be nearly $100m and the Center just walked.  Yikes.  What does that mean?  Rico walks, Mays walks, and we do not have a top 5 WR on a second contract.  We do not have an elite TE, and only 1 is on a modest second contract. And now Bryce will demand $50m for his incremental rise to mediocrity?   So when we sign Bryce, we will get weaker at other positions.  Hunt, Moton, maybe Ickey and Lewis, will all be casualties--that is the right move regardless (not sure yet about Ickey, but he was not elite) Bryce is one lucky, entitled camper.  No competition since being drafted, and he lost his job for a while to the aging clipboard holder.  Now we are bringing in UDFAs and busts to compete with him.
    • Probably not.  If we are taking a QB, it would be a prospect to replace Bryce and not a flyer type player.  I can't say for sure, but I doubt he would have cracked the top 3-4 QBs even if he were to play this coming season.
    • The Giants, Cardinals  and Dolphins should have moved on, but they didn't and ended up cutting their QB early into a monster second contract and had to eat a TON of dead cap money.
