BUT CAM CAN'T CHECKDOWN TO HIS RBS!! HE NEVER DOES!!!

It wasn't a good hands day for running back Jonathan Stewarticon-article-link.gif, but his perseverance paid off. After he dropped a second pass early, he got an earful from linebacker Thomas Davisicon-article-link.gif, who barked, "You left your hands in the building, Stew!

Stewart spent the subsequent special teams period catching ball after ball on the sideline from running backs coach Jim Skipper and pro scouting assistant Jonathan Fields. Lo and behold, Stewart dropped his next opportunity as well but then secured one soon after.

"Good job, Stew," Shula said.

I wouldn't write off Stewart because of one un padded practice. We have all seen him catch the ball in real games. He doesn't do it a lot, but he can. CMC will be a much bigger target in the passing game anyway.

Fozzy is legit garbage at being a checkdown back, and that's not Stew's forte either.

Just stop with your narrative that Cam sucks, because you honestly make yourself look stupid.

Who in the hell said Cam sucks? All I'm saying is that Stewart can catch better than what he showed in practice today. Stop being so damn sensitive.

I've been looking for it to no avail and I can't remember if the link was through the huddle or not. There was an All-22 film break down that highlighted the myth that Cam doesn't check down. If someone knows what I'm talking about, post the link please. Cam does a pretty decent to average job checking down to his RBs though.

After 10 years in the league, a drop is not a good look.  You think Stew is gonna magically become Marshal Faulk or Arian Foster(healthy)?

Stew is a RB, a tough to tackle grinder that is better suited to take a hand off than a check down.

He can do it, but I'd rather see him between the tackles than in the flat.  Stew is a beast but let's just call it what is.

70% career catch rate and it was 77% the one season that we actually made a real effort to feature him as a receiver.

Faulk's was 76% and Foster's was 72%.

Faulk is by far the best receiving RB that ive seen in my lifetime.

Stewart has 154 career receptions. He will be fine. He obviously won't be the #1 target but everybody already knows that. Or at least I hope they do. And I'm not trying to knock Cam by defending Stewart's ability to catch a damn football. Some people here are just so far up Cam's ass that they think any comment that isn't a compliment of Cam, must be an insult against him when it's really not.

Yep, seems like people forget that Stew caught 47 passes for 413 yards (with a 77% catch rate) under Chud (with Cam throwing to him) and then Shula stopped using him as a receiver.

So one season is the standard not the anomaly? Just for comparison sakes Peterson (who many consider a bad receiving back) has 5 seasons with over 200 yards receiving, Stewart has 1.

I'm not saying that Stew is Marshall Faulk when it comes to receiving. All I'm saying is that he performed very well in that department during the lone season that we made an effort to feature him as a receiver.

Peterson has received 40+ targets in five seasons, Stew only one. Peterson averages 33.5 targets per season, Stew 24.5. That's over 35% more targets per season,so it's a little unfair to pick an arbitrary number like 200 receiving yards to use as a viable measuring stick to compare the two.

The part that's worrisome is that Shula feels one out of four isn't bad.. yikes!

    • Lol, good one. Rod will never let Necas Play center
    • All I can say is... I have some happiness off the rags choking and losing to the Panthers. Hopefully the Western conference team wins the Stanley cup, but now I can be 100% uninvested in the playoffs
