Dave Gettleman FIRED as Panthers GM

No respectable GM bolts after a few years. It's not a flashy job like a head coach. I've been saying it for years that JR was cheap and only cared for his pockets. This is just another example of keeping jerseys sales up. Most of the front office has bolted because they know the owner is terrible.

Completely agree with this.

We won't be getting a respectable GM after this fiasco.

We will be getting a "Yes Man" that will give out bloated contracts to all of JR's pets... that will be a prerequisite for getting the job.

Those ill advised contracts will ensure the Panthers will return to playing .500 ball for the foreseeable future.

If the new GM is smart, he won't hang around long knowing those bloated contracts will destroy this team's ability to retain the younger talent and compete at a high level.

Longtime fans of the Panthers have been down this road before and it doesn't end well.

The Panthers have been run like a Mom and Pop organization for most of their existence... at least until Gettleman came in and started to run the team like a modern sports franchise.

Any GM taking the job at this point won't be taking the job to work with JR, they will be taking the job despite his presence.

Biggest draw would be taking over a talented team with a plan to quickly win a Super Bowl, give out some ill advised contracts to popular players on their last legs and bolt within a year or two before it all implodes.

Take this job now and you're in the position of trying to negotiate with players who have a "player's coach" while you're working for a "player's owner" who lets them run to daddy when the big bad boss man is being mean to them and hurting their feelings.

Would you want to be in that spot?

I literally checked the calendar to see if it was April 1st.

you and thousands of other Panthers fans.

I really thought this was some kind of spoof, perhaps Game of Thrones related, when I first got on twitter tonight.  I was offline all day (at the beach, tough life...) and so haven't really gotten my head around the fact that this is real news.

WISH it were FAKE news!

Not if I had a promising career ahead of me.

Whoever takes this job does so with the understanding that players nearing the end of their careers will receive contracts that hamper the team's long term viability to compete for a championship.

That means we'll be getting someone willing to sell out for a big payday that they don't think they'll realistically get elsewhere.

What GM anywhere near as good as Gettleman is going to sell out for those terms?  None, not a one.

We are looking at somebody at the end of the road looking to pad their retirement account or someone naive and wet behind the ears.  Only other option might be some sorry retread that no other team would hire.

Someone mentioned earlier that this was a move reminiscent of the Cleveland Browns and I couldn't agree more with that thought.

funny people keep bring up this terrible locker room yet every player over the last few years has gushed about how great our locker room is and how it's the best they've ever been involved with

Exactly... possible / probable future hall of famers like Jarred Allen & Peanut Tilman.  I think they know a thing or two about good locker rooms.

This is stupid as fug and I won't even begin to get into all the reasons why.  There is absolutely no way of justifying this right now, and we're headed right back down the road to cap hell.  Just when I was regaining faith in this franchise and organization this poo happens.  I really wonder if JR is suffering from dementia or something, this move came out of fuging no where and no one is defending it in national media

    • I have said if you out even an average QB into the offense we are averaging 25+ points a game. But that will never happen with Bryce under center.
    • The defense is 28 out of 32 in salary cap allocation for 2025. We have a ton of resources tied up in the offense including the highest paid OL in the league multiple 1st round WR's and multiple recent draft picks across the offense at TE and RB and we have two 1000 yard backs. Bryce and company couldn't get past Tyler Shough and his crew in 2 games. That's all there is to it. You can spin it and put the entire onus on the defense to your heart's desire it doesn't change the fact that this is an OFFENSIVE team now. If you want to argue that we should revert back to a defensive identity as we have been in the past which has brought us success then I will agree with you on that. But as it stands the onus is on the offense because that is where we have invested through the nose. Dave Canales and Bryce Young need to do a hell of a lot better than they have against the rebuilding Saints who without us should only have 2 wins this season.
    • Bryce is not trending up. He is the same QB he has always been. Bottom of the league in most categories.  If Canales thinks he can build a contender with Bryce then he is a bigger idiot then I thought.  Offense next year will have the same issues and be just as inconsistent as it was this year.  We have seen Bryce’a ceiling and it is 175 yards a game and that is not a QB you keep around as your starter. That is barely a backup.
