General Thoughts

There is no building a core when you have high turnover ...it is delusional to think Gman was building a long-term team core...he screwed the pooch with SS,Gross, and Norman with no letting up in sight.. see Davis and especially Olsen.

I hated the SS thing but the Norman screw up was the biggie and I think hurt us the most and will be felt for a while to come...I am glad he is gone

If think you are right and it is only down hill from here, at least we have a competitive roster today so this year is still on.

I will actually view TD as the focal point, if a single extra dime is sent his way we are heading for the "mediocre tops great as long as everyone is happy"-train.

Thanks.

I'm hoping for good, but not expecting it.

Yea history tells us it's not a good thing coming. Why fire the man that gave us the best Panthers years. Makes no sense if your goal is to win.

It's basically up to Rivera to keep this team afloat and continue evolving and growing. I still believe in Ron. Let's see if this affects TD's playing time this season. If he remains the starter, we're fuged. If they give Shaq the reins like they've said, we still have a chance. I'm starting to think the articles and talk about Shaq taking over bothered TD more than he led on.

A bottom line issue that I may be in the minority with--If DG's management style and highly cost efficient strategy when it came to retaining players was creating such a stir, then this timing is a-ok.

With the potential of our current roster, I don't want two of the most important players uncertain or displeased while under contract who happen to be the guys who pretty much carved our current culture and team identity.  That would have carried to the rest of the team on both sides of the ball and now assurances have been made that may make the team more relieved and a unit.

If this was Rivera, or if we did something sudden with a star, then I would be more concerned, but man, if DG was going to create another tailspin of contract negotiations and players were seeing this arising again, then yeah, get him out of here.

Quick edit: But outside of my attempt to rationalize this, yep, weird move today.

Inmates Running the Asylum

Ron Rivera is a former player.  So is Jerry Richardson.  Both have reputations for rewarding loyal, workmanlike, "try hard" guys over actual achievers.  Basically you have a "player's coach" and a "player's owner".  Being in-between those two is not exactly a good spot for a GM who wants to run the team to win rather than to be nice to players.

Remember that little debate about inmates running the asylum  we had long ago ? Thank you for being so honest today , why did you lie back then though

This isn't Rivera's doing. Per his own words, he had no idea it was even happening.

This was Gettleman vs favored players, and he lost.

So, did we have the most FO turnover this season, or in the past.. how long?

We wont really know how good or bad this decision is for a while, regardless of what is speculated, thought or felt.... I think/hope the foundation of this team is solid enough to endure the downfall some are predicting...

Too many good players to not be successful, Shulaball, Stoic Ron & Softie Richardson be damned.....
