Yep. It's Happening: "#Panthers owner Jerry Richardson and Marty Hurney meeting today, league source said. Expected to be named interim GM."

Like I won't take Cam, Olsen, TD, or Luke away from Hurn-dog. Great picks. All first round guys and all were great draft picks. But the money he gave to guys like Godfrey, Anderson, Williams, Mare, Beason, etc. it was all terrible. Say what you will about Gettleman but he got the same if not better results from the guys he replaced those guys with for a FRACTION of the cost. That's not even me touting Gettleman as a savior so much as criticizing how terrible Hurney was. Dude could have gotten the same results for way cheaper if his lips weren't so firmly around the shaft of his buddies.

Olsen was in a trade that even a street drunk wouldn't have passed on. Didn't draft him.

This is an interim hire guys... RELAX.

Under the circumstances, we're pretty fortunate to have a guy we can bring in that knows the org, coaching staff, players, etc... Hurney can hit the ground running.

Yes he made mistakes, but in the same breath you criticize him you better also give him credit for Cam, Kuechly, TD, Olsen, Norman, Peppers, Captain, CJ, Ryan Kalil, Stewart, Rivera, etc... many of those guys compose the nucleus of the team that went 18-1 and made it to SB50.

Would I be satisfied with Hurney as a long-term solution? no... but he's by far the best candidate on an interim basis. You want to talk about making business decisions, well putting emotions aside this is clearly what's best for business right now.

I misread his comment, we cleared it up.

How would he not be though if he's GM? Who would? I'm a bit confused on it.

Bill tweeted this morning (and I didn't know either because it was a concern of mine as well) that Rob Rogers and JR head a committee that have been dealing with contracts and will continue during the interim GM's tenure. I'm sure Marty will be in on it, but he won't have free rein.

Doesn't mean these contracts aren't coming out, just means Marty doesn't have the checkbook.

Just now, The NFL Shield At Midfield said:

yeah way to cherry pick his post

did gettleman ever draft a tight end who had half of his career yardage in one season when he was 30?  i don't think so.  the hurney train can't be stopped.

Just think Brandon LaFell has had far more success than Devin Funchess, and for half the draft picks.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
