While I appreciate everyone's opinion, I am going to go the opinions are like as*holes route. Everyone has one, and they all stink. If the glass is half full, maybe Hurney learned a valuable lesson. He did field several competitive teams during his tenure. The man also worked for free for about three to four months. I will be the first to say, this is not the popular choice, but given the circumstance and proximity to training camp, this is the best choice. If we win the super bowl this year then all bets are off, and I would assume the Interim tag will be removed. Otherwise, the replacement GM can wait until the first of the year when more executives are available.

this is exactly my sentiment. Yes, Hurney "was" a bad GM and made some questionable moves, but life is all about learning from your mistakes and bettering your craft. Hurney completely acknowledged the fact he mismanaged the salary cap during his tenure here, and that's half the battle. Give the man a 2nd chance before trashing him before he even gets going.

Gettleman clearly lacked people skills and had poor communication when it came to delivering "bad" news. He was let go because of that, and I'm sure if he's hired again as a GM, he'll work on improving that aspect of his career.

Ugh. I had forgotten just how bad it was. This is soul crushing. DG had this franchise set up for long term success and a bad GM can ruin that in a NY minute.

temporary or not this is a catastrophically stupid move organizationally and in terms of PR.

I agree that it's a bad move but will just devil advocate for a minute but I think it's a comfort and trust thing.  You know what you get with Hurney and you know where you can and can't trust him.  He also has a background with the coach and some players l which is key when there is sudden upheaval

I think from an interim standpoint you keep him on a short leash and make one of his primary responsibility searching for the permanent GM.

Also I don't think JR is a big PR guy.

Man, I had forgotten most of the names. You know why?  Most of them were terrible draft picks and never contributed to the team. I can see why JR might want to hire Hurley as an interim GM until the 2017 season is over. But, if he's allowed to oversee the 2018 draft I'm gonna be terrified.

We have a GM that put us in cap hell and gave us not only the least talented teams we ever had but the most unproductive. If Im a betting man I'm selling short on this team. It's going to be a dumpster fire in a year.

Alright your on man

P.S. Its not like people learn from their mistakes and improve in their craft.

Keep telling yourself that. Rivera and Hurney are a terrible pair. It's a bet I don't want to win so I will for sure.

    • 19. Lomu OT 51. Golday LB 83. Wheatley S 119. Allar QB 156. Fisher LB   This is the way.
    • It's still CJ by a wide margin.  BY has closed the gap, but the gap is still considerably large.  Let's not forget CJ was without basically ALL of his weapons in this last game against the Patriots, and I'm pretty sure he had an injury.  BY lost to that same Pats team by like 40 points.  In fairness, a good bit of that was due to the defense.  That said, BY was completely incapable of keeping us in the game.  Mistake free football does not always equal good football.  He still had a bad game.
    • Playing QB in this league is tough.  I can't hate on a man's work ethic without knowing exactly what it is.  From everything I've read about him, I seriously doubt his work ethic has dropped.  He had 2 concussions in 2 years, has his OL downgraded, got a different OC, and lost his best weapons due to injury in these short 2 years after his rookie year.  Throw that in with teams having more film on him and the drop-off makes sense.  Maybe he needs to change what he does in the offseason to adapt better, but I doubt he has an issues with work ethic.
