Some Fantasy Analyst is predicting that CMC will have 53 receptions in 2017

50 receptions a season averages out to 3 a game. Yeah I think he could get 3 catches a game especially with his good hands. I see him doing that on smoke routes alone.

Sure, it's totally doable.  It just requires Shula and the Panthers to evolve given the relatively small numbers of targets / receptions by our RBs since 2012.  But CMC could totally shake things up.  I hope he does.  It's just that it WOULD be a big change.  Go for it Shula, please!

True, that really puts it in perspective and sounds doable...  I hadn't "done the math"...  But, I'm just thinking there are so many people to share the ball.  Greg, KB, Stew, CMC, other WRs..., Cam.  So, we shall see.

The first couple of games will set the tone for the whole season. If he becomes the pass-catching weapon they think he is, Shula and Cam will both want to feed him the ball as much as possible.  If he's merely human, he won't fair any worse than those before him.

It sure is going to be an edge of the seat moment the first time we see him motion out of the backfield in a real game.

I think that Shula tries to do what he can with what he is given. He is creative but not a great tactician. He is good with play concept and creation and will draw up some good schemes and give Cam options. If Cam uses the check down as an extended handoff, then McCaffrey should be attacking on the edges where his speed and elusiveness makes him a threat to break one for a score on every play. If it works you will see it again.  I think Shula and Cam havent had weapons like McCaffrey and Curtis. Shepard so reminds me of a Cotchery clone in his prime. With a better line, this should be special.

@KB_fan I was actually wondering if you could a study specifically on the points per quarter of each game against the AFC West last year.

If I'm not mistaken, we had very big leads at some point in each and every one of those games against the supposed "toughest division in the NFL." Would love to hear some thought and stats from your end on that.

I think if a few things went differently, we'd be 4-0 against that division instead of 1-3.

he can beat three receptions a game

Sure.  I believe it and want to see it, and HOPE and TRUST that Ron & Shula will do all in their power to make it happen.

So please don't take anything I've written here as disparaging CMC or the idea that he can get 53 receptions or more this year.  All I've been trying to do with this analysis is to show that based on the past 6 years of data about our offense, this would be not so much an #evolution as a #REVOLUTION on offense, and that CMC would be in some pretty elite company of rookie RBs to have 53 receptions...

Believe he can do it.  Hope to see it.  Could be DAMN exciting to watch our offense this year...!  Let the REVOLUTION begin.

I'll see what I can do.  I had a lot of free time today, but the rest of this week and the 10 days following will be crazy.  I head back overseas on Sunday (Aug 6) -first to a big international conference for a week, then back to West Africa.  So, if I don't already have some of that data handy tonight, I might not be able to get to it.

I can at least point you to some resources where you could quickly look up the data yourself...  I'll PM you....
