Sorry, but week 1 worries me. West coast against a largely unknown team.

I won't be counting it as a guaranteed win anytime soon.

Then we'd be frauds.  No excuse not to beat those guys playing with a full deck.

Slow starts, west coast, it's just Week 1, etc...

But still, if we don't come out with a win in Week 1?  I'm worried about how good this team can be.  There is NO reason talent wise the 49ers should be able to compete with us. Not saying I expect a blowout, but anything less than a win in SF and my hopes for this team take a hit.

niners have won their last 6 or 7 week one games

and even though they've been trash the past two seasons, they've inexplicably been dominant in week one

carolina needs to do their homework for this one

Big deal.  New coach, no QB, conference opponent, inferior team in EVERY way, this is a borderline "win or you're out" game for RR.

Shanahan's leading that team. His work made the Falcons offense near unstoppable with how he could get any player wide open for an easy pass by Ryan.

Would not be surprised in the lightest to see an unexpectedly close game.

That or we'll blow them out. Especially if it takes a while for the 49ers offense to get used to the playbook much like the Falcons struggled with.

Matthew is a putz but let's get real, Brian Hoyer?!

ANY west coast game is cause for concern. Coast-to-coast games are always tough.

For the west coast team going east or after a late Sunday or Monday night game, maybe.  But for a healthy bunch of finely tuned pro athletes making a middle of the day first class 5-6 hour flight for the first game of the year-should have NO effect.  NO EXCUSES in this one!!

I agree with the NO EXCUSES part of your post. However, I have very little confidence in a week one Ron Rivera led team. Not to mention it will most likely be the first time our QBs surgically repaired rotator cuff gets a full game worth of throws in.

Even a bad DA and his $2.2 mil cap hit should in theory be plenty enough in this one.

How are they largely unknown? They have no QB, OL, defense, or WRs. Shanahan may be able to make something of their run game but it'll take time for them to rebuild.

    • I wouldn’t disagree with that.
    • I would say the fact that Dave Canales insisted on a 6 year contract should tell anyone all they need to know about his potential job security under the Tepper's. No matter how much we have heard recently about how David Tepper has learned from this and that. This is still the same man who spent $43.5 million to buy and then immediately demolish a house because of who owned it previously.
    • Same lineup to hopefully finish this one out tonight.  Here's today's projected lineup from the Hurricane's official website:   Tonight's Projected Lineup... Forwards Svechnikov - Aho - Jarvis Hall - Stankoven - Blake Ehlers - Staal - Martinook Carrier - Jankowski - Robinson Defense Slavin - Chatfield Miller - Walker Gostisbehere - Nikishin Starting Goaltender Andersen --- Injuries N/A Scratches Nicolas Deslauriers Pyotr Kochetkov Jesperi Kotkaniemi Mike Reilly --- PP1: Aho, Ehlers (Staal), Jarvis, and Svechnikov with Gostisbehere PP2: Blake, Hall, Jankowski, and Stankoven with Miller I'm getting to the point to where I have to get away from social media.  The narrative is still in some circles that Carolina has played no one.  I just don't see how you can continue to discount what our opponents in the playoffs have done, either to make it to the playoffs or the clubs they beat to faceoff against us.  I know this is how Carolina always get's treated, but if we win tonight our record is 12-1 in the playoffs. 12-1!  Meanwhile, along the way the "talking heads" had us losing in every round.  Maybe, just maybe, Carolina's just that damn good. /rant Here's to kickin azz and taking names tonight. LET'S GO CANES!!
