This Defense.... whoa buddy

I will go on record right now and say this defense will absolutely be ranked top 3 this year overall. When the starting unit is out there, there really are no weaknesses. Sure, some positions are better than others, but none are a concern really.

If they can stay healthy, I feel like we all are going to witness something truly special this year.

This is certainly welcome news. But it's something that frankly should be expected. With all the resources we've poured into that side of the ball the last several years, anything less than a top 10 defense is simply unacceptable. Especially when you factor in that we are once again put into a position of essentially hinging our season on a high percentage of uncertainty along the OL after watching our QB get knocked around the last 17 games.

I'm not convinced it will be effective. Time will tell.

All the more reason CMC should be our return man, absolutely no questions asked-to make things happen and turn the tide of games.

Think the best secondary the Panthers had was 2005. This secondary has that feel to it.

Talent wise, this is the most talented secondary we've had this century.

If the parts play as a unit, with this front 7 in front of it....

Oh forget it. It'll suck!

Defense is stacked!!! 4 solid Dt's. Vet de's feeding off each other's energy. Lb's just reaching the tip of the iceberg, playing next to Luke makes TD like 27 in his subconcious mind. Safety Vets who know where to be on the field. & young cb's that have already got there freshman whoopings out of the way, the only way is up.. and we are underated right now, by the time they see it coming it will be too late!!!

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
