Rivera on Cash's excuse after he "hit" McCaffrey during non-contact drills

This one even made old stoic Ron laugh...almost. I guess it kept Cash from Ron's doghouse.

'He shook me so bad that I fell into him'

Said Rivera: “I have never had a player tell me: ‘Hey, Coach, he shook me so bad that I fell into him.’ He told me that and I almost laughed. But I appreciated the brutal honesty. … Normally, players don’t want you to know they got shook.”

That's some funny poo right there. The legend of Run CMC grows.

That's funny, but I doubt that Cash was ever really in the dog house  though. He's too much of an up and coming player for RR to get too upset over and aggressive mistake in practice.

seriously? Cash? He's a role player.

There was probably some other poo going on in practice and this was a defining moment to bring forth a disciplinary example.  RR doesn't seem to be a guy to hold grudges for a heat of the moment misstep.  Especially from a guy like Cash who is not a habitual dirty player.

coaches and players don't play that poo, especially in non contact drills and to one of your most talented offensive weapons.

I'm guessing it was more about tackling CMC to the ground more than anything else. The goal is to thud and wrap up without going to the ground and risking injury. Any RB's knees will take enough of a beating during the pre season and regular season without having to deal with these hits in practice. That said, this was not a bad hit and I'm pretty sure RR will not hold it agains Cash long term.

This is a guy that should get a shot at SS.

They should have just kept him there out of college, we have enough LBs. I don't know what his pass coverage skills are but we know he has great closing speed and tackling well.

    • It's definitely a historical issue at QB but to be perfectly blunt, we also don't do a good job of really developing almost any position if you look at the last decade or so. I tend to be on the side of that being far less a development issue than an evaluation deficiency.  I think we are in the situation at QB2/3 recently due to the overall roster being absolutely abhorrent and the QB classes being quite thin. It is harder to justify another Matt Corral(or several) when you can potentially get a real two deep contributor at other positions.  But, it was a lot of hard work to get to the point where are roster is so incredibly bad that luxury picks literally are not in our vocabulary.  This is the reaping what you sow portion of our history.
    • That is what I meant about our front office. They are like someone filling out a March Madness bracket based on preference of uniform colors and mascots. There's no rhyme of reason to some of these fugg'n mind numbing decisions they make.  They go all in on these flimsy-@ss prospects and are gun shy when it comes to more solid prospects.  It's literally maddening and the reason I stopped being so emotionally involved in this team. Heck the only reason I'm active on the board today is one, it's my day off and two, it's cut down time.
