Stock Up, Stock Down (Preseason Game 1)

Who ya got?

Stock Up: Damiere Byrd, Joe Webb, David Mayo, Jared Norris, Kaelin Clay, Christian McCaffrey (shocking I know), first team OL, Kelvin Benjamin

Stock Down: DL after first team (SOOOO many mistakes and missed opportunities), Cole Luke, Austin Duke, and I'll throw Funchess in there too (didn't do much at all despite the hype)

Caveat:  I pretty much only managed to stay awake (game started at 1:30 a.m. local) for the 1st half and a wee bit of the 2nd...  and I could not watch thanks to stupid Game Pass not allowing me to use my subscription (created in Africa) while in Europe.  I was frickin mad about that...  So, I was listening to WBT.  (By the way, Jim Szoke is so much better than Mick...  Wish Szoke would do radio for all the games)

Stock up

Based on what I heard, I totally agree with your Stock Up list.

Boy it felt great to have KB get the 1st touchdown of  2017 in such a convincing fashion.  Good for him.  I want to see him overcome all the crap and ball out this season.  Would be huge for us.

I would also add Butker.  His making a 51 yarder while Gano missed from 50 could definitely change the dynamics of the kicking battle.

Tyler Larsen did great with the 1st team Oline, I gather.  Daeshon Hall did better than I expected, though his performance was up and down.  I'd also add Southward to the list.  Sounds like he's next man up at safety now that Marlowe is injured.

Derek Anderson.  Honestly, based on what I was hearing out of camp, I was afraid he was done.  But sounds like he had a few very nice series with the 1s.  I'm relieved.

Stock Down:  I'm not sure about 2nd team Dline.  After all we were missing both Butler and Love, so who on earth was playing DT?  That was more like 3rd team D-line after KK and Star left the game.

Teddy Williams.  He had a few ok plays, but as a vet, he should be better and I think he's a big liability.

Gano.  Sure, it's one kick.  But to miss your 1st FG attempt of live play after what happened last year...  pretty bad, especially when Butker went on to make a kick that was just a bit longer.

Austin Duke - BIG disappointment

Jeremy Cash - didn't sound like he had a great game.

Also of note...the team had few penalties...good team discipline for the 1st preseason game.

Yes, I noted this too.  What a HUGE change from the beginning of last season!

Last year in our 1st pre-season game we had 9 penalties for 80 yards.  Last night 5 penalties for 42 yards.  BIG difference and I was thrilled about this!

Interesting to see Southward playing so much and ahead of McCray

Agree, this was one of the surprises of the evening.  Hadn't heard much out of Southward previously during Camp.  Hoping he wants the opportunity now available with Marlowe gone and will really step up and claim it by his play.

I believe the hate on Gano hasn't lost a beat. Not like he missed wide...it hit the upright, from 50 yards. He won't gey no breal from you guys though.

Don't knoe how stock on an UDFA rookir can go down. While Austin Duke gas been having a good camp, i don't buy no hype when it's not live bullets.

Anderson came out.and played like he's capablr. Nothing new there, so he's unchanged, dispite how you feel his camp.has gone.

Webb really impressed me cept his INT, which I believe he'd like that one back.

Amini looks good.

Larsen looks good.

Bigger impressed.

Byrd. This was his coming out game. Hope he shows consistency, and he'll have an impact on game day.

    • SUBSTANTIALLY shorter than Will Campbell. Didn’t know how much until now. I’ll be surprised if he ends up with a real shot at OT anywhere tbh.
    • The front office may think more of KP than Howell. The point wasn't that Howell was some sort of god on the football field. He's had a relatively good season once. That's potential.  KP has thrown for 2500 and 2000 in back to back seasons and was benched in 23' That's not good. 13 TDs in 25 games in Pittsburgh as a starter. Howell had 3950/21/21 in a single season.  I'm not proclaiming Howell is a franchise saver. I'm saying KP has never once achieved Bryce's best season and now he's his backup. This follows Dalton who was so terrible he should have been let walk last off-season but wasn't, again, no threat to Bryce. Jack Plummer, so bad in his 1st camp the Huddle wanted to chase him out of town, so he's brought back for a 2nd. If you can't recognize the pattern, that's on you.  I'm not even saying I want Howell. I'm saying Pickett is so bad he could barely do in 2 years what Howell did in 1. We didn't aggressively make our QB room better. We made it worse.
    • I'm sure he could play LG, but Hunt is still here. You save 14 million in salary if you move on from him after 2026 season, but no reason you wouldn't think that Icky would want or command more than that on the open Market so would be a wash to me really.
