2 random thoughts about Matt Kalil and Ben Boulware

Matt Kalil looked like garbage last night. Haven't seen this really discussed anywhere yet.

After how hyped he was (by people including myself I'll admit), Ben Boulware has zero chance of making this team. Too bad too, he would have been the definition of a perfect fit if he could actually play pro football well.

The only place that hyped him up were the local school homers of this site.

Did Matt really play like garbage? I'll admit I don't watch the line that much during the game, but people seemed to be pleased in the gameday thread.

I didn't bash the signing once. But he played poorly every time I focused on him last night.

So far in the sample size we have, our offensive line looks better than it has in a few years...maybe even better than 2015...that's even without Kalil at center.

Just checked PFF to make sure I wasn't crazy and Kalil graded out very poorly with a 36.5.

He had good plays and bad plays, but more bad plays than one would like. That said, he's shown in practice and in the first two games that he has the ability to protect, but last night wasn't the greatest showing for him. He looked confused about who his assignment was, more than he looked physically unable to do his job. I'm not worried just yet.

Yeah this is nearly exactly my feeling on him. I don't think one bad preseason game means he's going to be bad this year at all. Doesn't change the fact that he DID play poorly last night and we shouldn't sugarcoat that.
