The Forgotten Portion of The KB Trade

Why exactly the Panthers pulled the trigger on the KB trade is complicated but I don't think enough attention is being paid to the $8.459 mil in cap space being saved next year.

So instead of choosing between Norwell and Star this offseason, the Panthers can now afford both.

Which combination would you rather have...?

  • KB and either Norwell or Star
  • Norwell, Star, and a 2018 3rd round pick

If I remember correctly Hurney broke into the organization as a cap manager so I think he could have his eyes on the future with this move.

He could've solved that by cutting him after the year.

But no third-round pick. Marty can now bundle that with next year's first and move up for a scrappy college qb that has great WR potential, or a physical RB that sometimes needs help finding lanes.

8 games of KB is not worth more than 4 years of a 3rd round pick.

8 games of him in a year where we might actually compete for a championship vs. a 3rd round hurney pick that will be off the roster in 1.5 years>|?

Ha a 3rd round pick!

You’re also forgetting the fact we’re 5-3 and could’ve possibly had a shot at the playoffs. This may have a very negative impact in the locker room as KB was a locker room favorite, no 3rd round Hurney pick is worth pissing off a locker room in the middle of a 5-3 season

Even if the 3rd round pick is a complete scrub I still prefer the combo of Norwell/Star to either KB/Star or KB/Norwell.

Games are won in the trenches.

Here is what people do not realize--KB was not a good fit for our offense.  Cam holds the ball so long waiting for him, he risks injury.  KB was a decent #1, but was not getting better (came to camp out of shape).  His rookie season was his best.  When he was sitting out, we won 15 games and lost 1 with Ted Ginn as the #1.

Was anyone paying attention to what teams were doing to us?  Count the players in the box--that is why we can't run.  We always faced 7 in the box--8 and even 9 at times.  They could cover KB with a S if they had to, a CB on Funchess, etc.  Now with Funchess, Samuel, Sheperd, and CMC, Cam gets the ball out quicker, we have more speed, and they have to respect the deep ball.  We will add a WR in the draft, but this will pay off this year---

We may lose 300 yards of receiving from our #1, but we add 100 to the slot and #2.  In addition, we run the ball better.  You will see.

    • lol Honestly, it might sound dumb, but I've had this idea in my head of a specific picture I really want to get with him since draft night. Basically I want it to be of the two of us sitting on the floor next to each other with the picture from behind.  Ideally it would have been with us both wearing T-Mac jerseys (and me wearing an Arizona hat that has block A logo on the back of it too), but since they won't have baby versions of those for a bit and that does seem like a waste of money on something he'll grow out of in a few months, I think I'll go with this that I've found on Amazon for like 12 bucks........ I'll get this made with T-Mac's #4 but then my Nephew's first name (which incidentally starts with a T, so I've already joked to my sister that she needs to change his middle name to something with "Mc" or "Mac" in it so i can call him T-Mac lol) Just think that would make for a really cool picture for me to have of him at this age (just over 13 months now), with the two of us wearing our #4's.  It's the type of thing I can absolutely see myself getting it printed out by Shutterfly on one of those canvas like prints to hang on my wall. And seeing as they live in NYC with me in Michigan, not sure the next time I'll see him again as I can't just drive on down the street for a picture when the jersey arrives, so was hoping I'd be able to take advantage of seeing them at the end of the month to get this picture, but it would all be dependent on the jersey (and this custom onesie) being shipped in time.
    • Just wear another jersey and have AI photoshop it lol
    • His piece of the pie is only going to get smaller unless there are serious injuries.  Unless the actual pie becomes that much larger, ie Bryce being Kurt Warner, I don't think there's room for him to breakout.  Just like there's not room for JT Sanders to break out beyond a couple hundred yards receiving and a few TDs. I don't think a lot of people understand the volume that XL got last year.
