We were over the 2018 salary cap prior to the trade

I'm not sure if you were around for Hurney's previous tenure, but lemme give you a quick tip.

Hurney doesn't plan for future salary cap numbers. He never has, and this is well known.

Hurney makes moves year by year on the fly. It's one of the reasons we wound up in cap hell before.

And no, there's no evidence that's changed.

It’s ok though. I’m sure JR didn’t say get rid of KB to bring back my golden boy...

Just now, Chairman Wow said:

Anyone who believes that Beane and Hurney had not discussed a Benjamin trade long before the "magic" final phone call are delusional.

Once the trade is done, there's no benefit to hiding any of the details that led up to it.

If Beane said he initiated the call the day before, there's zero reason not to believe him.

I've been around since the beginning. I'm well aware of all of his past mistakes. Hopefully he's learned from them, after all that's our best hope since we know he'll be managing the cap and draft next year.

Beane and Hurney talk regularly, as is well known. They are friends. It stretches credulity to the limit to suppose Beane simply dreamed up the idea of the Benjamin trade a few minutes before the trade deadline and had not mentioned it to Hurney at some point previously.

This is all PR.

Hurney was shopping Benjamin. Beane is protecting his ability to make back-channel deals with other GM's.

Do you really see any evidence of change?

We have 4.5 mil from this year to roll over and 7.5 mil for next year.

Matt Kalil, Ryan Kalil, Adams, Stewart and others would save a ton of money each if they were to be cut. Expect a few of them to be gone.

I hope Hurney is up to the task of making tough decisions. But what good is having money, if you're not willing to spend on adequate replacements?

We’d save 1 mill by designating Matt as a post June 1st cut next season.

That number jumps up to 8 the year after and 11 then 11.5 the following two as long as he’s a post June 1st cut.

unless I’m missing something here
