Did Ron throw the challenge flag as a response to Cam screaming at the playcall?

Conspiracy theory. Ridiculous low percentage challenge, came after Cam screamed at him and the clock was about to die.

Would an embattled, marginally unconfident head coach spontaneously chuck the flag as a self defense mechanism? Or am I just blinded by my lack of trust in this coaching staff?

Ron got emasculated in front of the team and threw the flag as a thinly-veiled way to change his mind. It's doubtful anyone was fooled and now this team knows who runs poo.

Look for Ron to try to make up for it later with a completely unnecessary and overboard power move.

Absolutely. Told my wife as soon as I saw him pull the flag out that he was backtracking. It was either that or use a time out. Also, this had the lucky byproduct of improving field position by a yard or so.

Gotta listen to your squad once in a while. This could be a significant moment this season.

Rom was a legitimate great coach after the Arizona game for all of 2013. Hasn't been that way since the Niners loss though. Not sure what the hell happened

I think he was screaming at him to go for the first down rather than the field goal. Ron responded by throwing a challenge flag.

Ugh.

Aikman called him out on the broadcast for not living up to his 'Riverboat Ron' moniker.

And yeah, this incident makes Ron look like 1) he's  coward and 2) he's not in control.

Yep. Completely transparent.

Like benching the QB for not wearing a tie?

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
