The luckiest win in Panthers history?

I'll be the dick. Most of these aren't luck.

#1) Austin Sefarian-Jenkins drops a wide open TD pass in the 1st quarter.

#2) Jonathan Stewart near fumble in the 1st quarter miraculously recovered by the Panthers

#3) Austin Sefarian-Jenkins TD inexplicably called back in the 4th quarter (is this guy cursed or what?)

NOT LUCK; CORRECTLY APPLIED RULE. He didn't control the cockadoodie ball! It wasn't a slight movement. Just stop it, already!

#4) Offsides penalty on the Jets on 4th down to gift the Panthers a first down in the 4th quarter

NOT LUCK

#5) Roughing the passer called on 3rd down late in the 4th quarter

NOT LUCK

#6) Countless near-blocked punts

NOT LUCK

I mean, you might as well just say every good thing that happened was luck. Why'd you leave out the Luke fumble return? Why'd you leave out the punt return? Because those weren't luck, either.

It's always worst to be talking about the luckiest LOSS.

easily our 2003 Super Bowl.

no one will say it was our luckiest loss, in fact no one remembers that we played.

the point is that's better to be lucky than to be good-- I believe Chuck Yeager said that.

If you are going to play the nitpick game, you gotta do it both ways....

Were the Jets incredibly lucky guys like Funchess couldn't make plays on balls they should?

Were the Jets incredibly lucky Cam missed WIDE OPEN TEs multiple times for what would have been huge plays?

It's football.

As far as other games? Hell, in the Cam/Ron era I'd say the biggest gift wrap present we ever got was Gronk/endzone game.  Refs let us have that win.  We should of had to earn it on a 1 yard play for the game....but we got lucky the refs gave it to us.   That was more luck helping us get a win than anything I saw Sunday.

I mean, the Delhomme era? Hell, you know how many plays into triple coverage to 89 won us games?  Those didn't all go down because 89 was a badass.  Some of it sure....some of it was just getting lucky doing dumb stuff.

"Lucky" is a pretty poor way to describe this win. Ultimately, it all comes down to execution and in the end we executed more than the jets. It was not luck that drew the jets off side or #98 pushing Cam in the face after a throw.

Lack of execution on the jets end. If anything we should applaud the fact the team held composure and still found a way to win. More or less we need to be excited about our special teams stepping up, because you know in that locker room they were thankful not only for Clay, but the damn good blocking that he got on that punt return.

ASJ’s second “TD” catch definitely was incomplete by today’s standards. The replay they kept focusing on so it would look like it only moved a little was from across from his helmet. The one time it showed the opposite angle it was clear it shifted all the way down to his waist and he used his thigh to push it back up into his hands so it would appear that he maintained possession. He didn’t, by today’s standards.

Regarding the second roughing the passer call, that was about as obvious a call as we will see.  We can claim that Cam doesn't normally get those calls, but that is not really true.  He hasn't had many committed against him that were that obvious.  The dlineman just looked at him and pushed him back well after the play was over.

Lol this is ridiculous. This year there haven’t been as many against him, but in the years past he had probably one completely obvious and blatantly ignored rtp committeed against him in every two or three games. He’ll, there were four or five in the season opener last year alone.

Teams haven’t taken cheap shots on him this year.   Eventually a team will now he is getting healthy and running.  Will have to see what refs do

I am sorry but I tried to hard to ignore this, but dude wtf?! How was it a miracle that J-Stew recovered a fumble when he was the only one within 3-5 yards of the football? CMON MAN!

No its not.  Most of those you are referring to happened when he was on the run, or the defensive player hit him in a continuation of the play.  The Jets defender actually extended his arms into Cam Newton when he was nearly stopped.  Here it is, I doubt you will find one as blatant that wasn't called.

Extending his arms is what got the penalty called.  It gets called every time, or 99 out of a hundred.  Period end of discussion.

Yeah but go back and watch it if you can. It sure looked like the ref was thinking long and hard about not calling it. To me the flag came out way late. Like he was trying to think of some reason so he wouldn't have to throw it.

Rolling out =/= on the run. If you truly believe what you’re saying, then there’s no reasoning with you and I’m not gonna bother trying.

    • I must apologize, my sarcasm at times doesnt translate well in text form lol. At this point I would welcome us signing him, Trey Lance, trading for Jameis Winston, asking about Deshaun Watson and playing phone tag with Tom Brady before I ever fully entertain a season of Bryce Young being the defacto Starting Quarterback of the Panthers.
    • Petey Pablo raises up for the Carolina Panthers pregame at the Roaring Riot tailgate. videoplayback (30).mp4
    • We had a QB who could do that and its the last time we went to the Super Bowl and the only time we had an MVP. Once he lost his ability to do that he was out of the league. To filter out insignificant stats I will only look at QBs who have played in 10 or more games this year. There are 28 qualifying QBs. Bryce is 25th in Air Yards per Attempt at 6.4. Only Joe Flacco, Cam Ward, and Dillon Gabriel are worse (6.0, 5.8, 5.1). Trevor Lawrence, Patrick Mahomes, and CJ Stroud are the median QBs at 7.1. Drake Maye and Sam Darnold lead the league at 8.7. Bryce is 18th in the league for passes that travel 30+ yards at 12. The median is Caleb Williams at 15. The league leader is Matthew Stafford with 26. With passes that travel 40+ yards, Bryce is tied with three others at 21st in the league with 3. Only Jacoby Brissett, Cam Ward, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel are worse. The median is a three-way tie with Drake Maye, Trevor Lawrence, and Baker Mayfield with 6. The league leader is Sam Darnold with 12. Having the ability to complete passes down the field (not YAC) stretches the defense and makes them account for more ground. It keeps players out of the box and keeps formations in nickel or dime, less line backers for your RBs to worry about. Bryce is why we have 2 losses against the Saints. If he had the outright ability to sling the football down field we beat the easily, but he doesn't. So they crowded the box and our 2 starting caliber RBs with our top ~10 Oline couldn't carry the offense to a win on their own. The limitations of the offense fall squarely on Bryce.
