Bucs at Panthers Statistical Snapshot

How many times this year have we played the worst defense in the league (at that point in the season)? Saints early on, then the Pats and now the Bucs? Anyone else?

well it worked out against the Patriots . Cam completed 76% of his passes for over 300 yrds and 3TDs. And the team also rushed for 140 yards averaging 4.8 yards per rush.

The Saints defense of today was basically born in our first meeting since it was so early in the season. And they were extremely desperate with their backs against the wall at 0-2.

So stats def do mean something, especially in this case that Tampa has the absolute dead last ranked defense in 5 different catagories. Being last ranked in sacks and last ranked in pass D is a huge indicator we should have a field day throwing the ball. And their rush D is 23rd as well

My initial random thoughts on the Car-TB game:

1. Desean Jackson injury. Listed as questionable. W/o knowing degree of injury, motivation to play goes both ways...can try to build up stats in meaningless game vs. risk of worsening injury.

2. Stats for small sample sizes are meaningless. By this time of yr, however, the picture is about as clear as it gets with 2 games left. Car is 2nd in the league in the critical TOP measure at just under 33min/game..only PHI ranks better. Control the ball, control the clock, don't turn the ball over...

3. TB is an unbalanced offense. Low TOP suggests falling behind in games so can't establish run and need Winston to rally team..unfortunately, he is not accurate enough of passer to succeed so passing yards appear OK but lots of meaningless yards. TB seemed to be turning a corner as a franchise in 2016 but was mirage. Defense in disarray, offense in disarray and special teams in disarray with 31st ranked punting and return avg.

4. TB is a horrid Away team this year. 1-6 SU and ATS. TB has not beaten a team with winning record in 2017.

5. Car is good 5-2 SU and ATS at Home.

6. Greg Olsen hitting stride is huge addition for Car.

    • PJ's completion % was 63% when starting games in Carolina.  Which I believe is better than Bryce when starting.  And again, 4-3 as the starter here and the LONE QB Carolina has been able to actually win with in the Tepper era.  If you ask a gambling gunslinger to come into blowouts.....they are going to go down in a blaze of glory.  Which he would do.  Yeah, he isn't good.  And gunslingers are supposed to have rockier stats than checkdown QBs.   So....why does PJ Walker have a better comp % as a starter than Bryce Young.  And for every knock you want to make about PJ, you can find something or a skillset that PJ does better than Bryce.   I didn't say PJ had good field vision.  He doesn't.  Tell me about Bryce after he comes off the first read lol.  Let me repeat, PJ Walker is not a good QB.  He is NFL depth and an in house arm.  Bryce Young doesn't belong in a convo w/ Jake and Cam.  He belongs closer in a convo with the backup caliber QBs Carolina was forced into playing.  Which isn't just PJ Walker.  But Kyle Allen.  Moore.  Guys like that.
    • Oh I see what you meant by memory. I will trust my memory, I have looked a a lot of those ball charts for Bryce and they trend a general pattern. They thing that has changed that I have noticed more recently is the reduction in the bunching of behind or at  the LOS passes over to his right.  Aside from the quantity of throws recently since the running game has become a more dominant factor.
    • Yes but you basically said you are going from a quick skim of those charts without doing the same for Bryce and/or Andy. So you are going memory vs. snapshots. That's not going to be a very comprehensive analysis.
