Not a Pro Bowler but the MVP?

If the panthers win the south at 12-4, and Cam ends up with 3500 yds passing, 25 TDs, 12 ints, on 60% passing to go along with 750 yds rushing with 5-6 tds, he will be in the conversation very quickly.  Those are insane numbers and very possible.  Winning 8 out of 9 to finish the season strong doesn't hurt either.

I'd take those numbers over Wentz' 60% passing, 3300 yds. 33/7 td to INT, 300 yds rushing, and 11 wins.

Brady's passing numbers are way better than both, but he does nothing with his legs.  If MVP voters consider Cam's rushing ability, it could be interesting.

Oh I know he won't win - Brady, Roethlisburger, Wentz, Brees, and maybe even Goff are probably all ahead as well as Gurley.  Hell, I'd be surprised if they haven't already engraved Brady's name on it.  But if the Panthers win their last 2 going 12-4 with Cam cranking out 4-5 TDs, 500 yds passing and another 150 on the ground, he will definitely be top 5-6.

That means Cam would have to get over 500 yards passing and over 100 more yards rushing in the next 2 contests, AND not throw anymore picks. That's possible I guess. But that would mean Cam has a full 10 less passing touchdowns and 5 less rushing TDs than he did in 2015, im not sure you can repeat as an MVP with much worse stats the the previous time you were MVP

I'm also very doubtful we win the division. Saints are extremely pissed off about the first falcons game and I wouldnt be surprised of the Falcons get blown out of the Superdome.

John Madden once said the MVP is the person that makes the biggest difference to their individual team being a Super Bowl contender or a dud.

Phily is doing great with Nick Foles,..

would the Patriots even be a conversation without Tom Brady?

Would the Panthers even be a conversation without Cam Newton?

the Steelers went from smashing the Patriots to not so much without Antonio Brown,..

those are MVP candidates. It’s not so much about record stats, it’s the x-factor and wins they bring the team.

so by that definition yes Cam should be in the conversation.

In the end... I feel it’s Tom Brady,... again.

Watson should be an footnote to the MVP race. The AFC south would be a completely different race with him there all year. It would be the strongest conference  in the AFC. The difference between the Texans with Watson and without is up there with Carolina with and without Cam. Think he is ROY, but not enough games and stats to finish above 4th in the OROY. It's either Hunt or special K right now. CMC might crack top 4.

I think Gurley wins MVP. Has the stats and big games to back it up. Other would be Wentz had a shot if they stayed the course and won out before the injury. The NFC is loaded and to take that team to 14-2 would have likely given him the MVP.

Cam would need so much to break right to get top 5 consideration. 1st ATL to take down the saints, and he absolutely destroy the bucs this week. Then need to destroy the falcons in a shootout where he had a few highlight reel plays in a last gasp winning drive to seal the division in ATL. a 400+ yard passing 100+ rushing day with 5 TDs. Statistically he is not on the same planet as Brady, Wentz, or hell Rivers. Even then the consistency was not there.

this whole thing is weird. Keuchly is in the Pro-Bowl, however, according to stats he is not the lead tackler or lead sacker, yet he made the pro bowl. ( What helps is his 3 INT). Wilson, made the pro bowl... fugging Wilson, sure his stats look good, but his team is horrible. I am starting not to put any clout into MVP Pro Bowl candidates... in reality its a popularity contest. Everyone says Kamara will get OROY however, Fournette has similar stats, but he is not even mentioned.

    • Glass houses and all. I find the people who are the most adamant about this type of thing tend to have the most to hide. Careful buddy.
    • Also, wanted to point out, all 3 of the Pivot guys I respect and appreciate tremendously.  I know RC only had 1 pro bowl, but I loved his game.  He was tough as nails and played with a ton of heart and grit.  He was trying to knock people out, but was also super cerebral.  Fred is obviously a hall of famer and just as tough. Channing made the most of what he had and was hard-nosed as well.  And yet, all three of them let Steve slide on a ton of poo in this interview.  They actually cowered in several moments and I don’t like that at all.  Because for all the things I mentioned in my initial post in this thread, them not trying to reel him back in or hold his feet to the fire on certain bullshit, and feels gross.  Yall were all on the same competitive level as athletes, and yet, yall just let him skate on poo like talking about invoking using a gun on someone, laughing off how he essentially ended two teammates’ careers by BULLYING them and then co-signing it, and letting him completely sidestep accountability about his affair.  I get it, because apparently he invited you to his home to do the interview, but either talk some real poo or don’t do the interview at all.  This was some real softball poo.
    • This season’s leader, Daniel Jones, is averaging 265.9 yards per game, that would rank 12th in 2015. Even going back to 2020, he would rank 10th in passing yards. So it does appear that passing yards is down, but is that because they aren’t as good? Possibly, but we were spoilt in recent years when we had Brady, Peyton, Brees, Rodgers, Roethlisberger, Rivers, Ryan, Stafford (etc). As crops of QBs go, it was an amazing era to watch and most will end up in the Hall of Fame. I’m not convinced you we could list as many potential Hall of Fame QBs from the current crop. Will it go pass heavy again? I think there’s a good chance that it will, but it will require QBs that can consistently air the ball out in the frequency we saw in the 00s and 10s. I think currently coaches are favouring a more balanced approach, if not favouring a strong running game.
