Do I have to much faith in Cam?

Don't get me wrong, Cam is very good QB but Shula and Rivera don't trust his accuracy until it's do or die time.  Its seems they'd rather limit risk early on because of that inaccuracy coupled with the subpar receiving corps.   Should the coaching staff be more aggressive offensively and risk early TOs with Cam or keep the status quo approach?  It's hard to oppose their tactic since 11-4 is a pretty damn good year in the league.  I think to beat the Saints and other top tier teams in the league, we might need to take more risk on offensive and limit some of the deficiencies on the defense, primarily the secondary's exposure to give up the huge plays.

I think we continue to play ball control with the occasional long pass thrown in. I noticed they are starting cmc now and using stew in short yardage. I think that w help as it gives u more options to run or pass.

I’m still trying to figure out how “to much” something.

Yeah, I did it.

fixed it..."too much"....an engineer so all this fancy wordin' isn't  my thang...simply a typo though.  I don't think beating the Saints is possible using the current strategy, the Saints know it.

Just a playful jab.  Typos happen.

To your point I agree, rolling out the same ol game plan against the Taints won’t work.

I almost threw my beer mug threw my TV when Rivera and Shula let Derek Anderson and his disturbing propensity for interceptions walk in cold off the sideline for one play and immediately throw the ball when all that moron Shula wants Cam to do inside the 10-yd line is run QB draws.

When I thought I couldn't despise those two coaches any more than I already do, they went and proved me wrong again.

Cam is who he is. A streaky passer who can make every throw but with inconsistent accuracy, who also happens to be the best athlete on the field 99% of the time. He's probably the most unique QB in NFL history, on any given play he's either Peyton Manning or Eric Dickerson. He effects every running play and forces the full attention of at least one defender on the back seven every moment the ball is in his hands. His biggest flaws is he can be a little slow getting the ball out and poor mechanics in the pocket lead to inaccurate throws, especially when pressured. That's why you don't want him throwing the ball 25+ times a game, odds are he'll make a handful of bad throws that can be back breakers if they get picked. I still wouldn't trade him for anyone else, on and off the field he's a joy to follow and root for.

Good point that’s y we need to play ball control in postseason

Cam could be a little more polished but he can do everything we ask a top QB to do in this league. If you factor his running ability and his ability to convert 3rd down he’s essentially a priceless player. Especially in this offense when we have struggled all season to establish a running game and very green WRs being introduced into the offense.

That drive against TB is textbook Cam Newton.

Most QB’s can be taken out of the game if a team has good pass defense or happens to be playing good that day. When you can run power consistently with your QB, who is also a beast in the open field why would I give up that advantage? Most QB’s aren’t built to do that. He protects himself well as a runner aside from that ATL game.

I’d take that advantage. My only beef with Cam is wearing ATL gear and playing soft against the Falcants. We need Killa Cam this next game, not their fan or buddy, otherwise he’s the best QB this franchise has ever had and a great community presence. Cam is the solution at QB not the problem.

When has Cam ever played soft against the Falcons? He owns them.

    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
    • My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
