Best resumé bullet point for Steve Wilks prior to his multiple HC interviews next week

Honestly I think he had a better resume as a DB coach. At least there was potential. His short time at DC has been lacking when you figure you have 3 HOF players on your site of the ball.

Yet still, multiple teams want to interview him.  Now is it just pro-forma Rooney Rule BS (which I hate, btw)?  I hope not.

Come on, Wilksy... you know you want to walk in with that impressive accomplishment on your list!

wait, if he shuts down brees, ingram, and kamara, wouldn't that mean he won't be interviewing next week given the fact we'd be prepping for the divisional round?

Your team has two of the best coverage linebackers in the league?

Great i'll blitz them almost every down.

Wait you also have a 3rd backer who is also pretty good at rushing the QB?

He'll be perfect for covering those fast shifty slot receivers that most DB's can hardly cover.

I honestly don't think the Panthers take a step back if we lose him. He might have been a great DC one day but not even in two years if you ask me.

Basically. It's why I really don't understand him. Or I will use a LB to cover a WR and let my slot CB stay on the bench. Wilks might have been a great DB coach but you have heard more than one CB grumble about him this year.

In all honesty Wilks would be a damn good head coach. He’s got the intelligence, respect, and leadership you’d want. No doubt I’d see him having success paired with a creative defensive minded DC.

I just think he’s a horrible coordinator and schemer. His aggressive attitude is a nice change, but it’s more like he’s picking random blitzes on madden and trying that on every third down. We actually have more success rushing four than we do blitzing tbh.

Either way, hope he picks it up during the playoffs.

Unfortunately I think being a good DC or OC is very important as a HC. While say what you want about Rivera he has made Luke one of the best all times. Luke wasn't complete coming out but now he definitely is and Rivera had a hand in it. Also adjusting on defense st halftime Rivera is very good at. I remember Fox was terrible at this. I thought McDermott left a bit early and he had several years as a DC. Wilks while energetic and aggressive just doesn't have the knowledge imo yet.

Actually at this point I don’t even care about the rest of the playoffs,..

if we somehow by the love of God get by this game, win by a safety or a Clay punt return or anyway possible,..

i don’t think I’d care after that what happened the next week,...

call bullshit after we win,..

    • So much revisionist history around the pre-draft Bryce hype. The media was practically united in saying that if he were a couple inches taller he'd be the perfect prospect and it was just a question of whether he'd hold up in the NFL being that small. The Panthers did not create the mythos around him they were just the team that bought in. The team was largely praised for the move after and for surrounding him with what was considered an all-star coaching staff at the time.  Yeah part of the fanbase wanted Stroud but let's be real, we're coming from an oversized franchise QB who injured himself out the league. There was some analysis here on the limitations of Bryce's game but people were mostly just concerned he was going to turn into dust when he got sacked in the NFL.
    • Maybe Rod changing his philosophy a little so that stars dont turn into JAGs.
    • I feel like the last 2 years were the best chances to win the Cup under Rod. Especially 2 years ago. Im afraid this year is the start of the decline. You cant last forever with his philosophy which doesnt change and most stars you get by the trade deadline end up being just another guy.  It sucks because he is a master motivator. All he needs to do is make small tweaks like change his coaching staff and actually address the issues this team has had year after year in the playoffs. Not just personnel wise, but strategic wise.
