So, are you saying he doesn’t have a distaste for dreads, cornrows, and tats? Didn’t he tell Cam not to get any of that?

He told Cam not to get any of that, and Ball, who’s a former member of the team says he knows JR doesn’t like any of that, yet you still don’t believe he has a distaste for them?

So, are you saying he secretly hates TD? Surprised he wasn't cut after all those knee injuries.

Why would he hate TD, when TD has pretty much always been clean cut? Do you find TD growing his hair just a little bit distasteful? Are you against him having long hair?

Actually it could be.

It's entirely possible that this event is what caused Ball to be let go. Since he's a practice squad player, it's easily justified by other things and flies under the radar.

But it's very possible that those factors don't get him cut without this protest.

What’s interesting to me is if it did in fact have any role to play in the firing of Dave Gettleman. If you have a scrub player getting cut in part because of his beliefs that’s one thing. If you have a person in basically the highest position getting unexpectedly and unceremoniously fired while he was considered by many to be doing his job pretty well, all because he wouldn’t get rid of said player based on beliefs, then you have a very, very concerning problem at an organizational level.

I would be very skeptical to believe that.

Until of course the owner of said organization steps down immediately and sells the very baby he created over some troubling information coming out.

If nothing else it gives some merit to the discussion that Ball brings up.

I prefer dreads with the gold tips personally. That’s a cool look I’ll never get to experience, like dunking a basketball.

Plus it adds like +2 to speed and hit power on Madden, so I mostly draft guys with dreads.

And madden needs to bring back tattoos also, coming from someone fully tatted.

One thing...

I've read the whole article twice. I don't see Marcus Ball anywhere saying that he's a phenomenal player who deserves to be a superstar. He seems to get that he was only practice squad level in the NFL.

No where does he come off and seeming to think his talent is just unappreciated. He's questioning the reason for his release, and in light of current events, it's a valid question.

I don't think the sour grapes argument is correct here.

I think he absolutely has a distaste for them. That being said I would (and did, initially) give him the benefit of the doubt that maybe it’s because he wants a clean cut organization. Much like how the Yankees don’t let players have beards.

That is until other information comes out and then you get the feeling he just doesn’t like it because it looks too “urban” in his mind, which then makes it go from (in my mind at least) that’s ok it’s his choice to have a clean cut organization to something a little bit more unsettling.

We are now on the latter part IMO.

Could be. I don’t think I can give him the benefit of the doubt any longer, though. Judging by what I know about the organization, I think JR correlates dreads, cornrows, and tattoos with bad behavior or as being a bad character.

Now, that’s not necessarily racial when one thinks that way, because there’s many who think that way, but it can be racial. I don’t want to call JR a racist until the investigation is done with, and it’s proven he used a racial slur towards a black employee.

I think it would be a reach to say that this would be why Gettleman got fired. Richardson obviously didn't like his all business approach to running the team. He was going to part ways with him and bring back his good friend that ran things the way he liked regardless.

But could this incident have qualified for the mental list that Richardson was making of all the reasons why he disliked Gettleman?

Definitely.

sorry but that's being too rational. everything's racially and emotionally motivated these days.

really can't fathom why we're having a debate over a guy who's clearly been a practice squad talent at best all his NFL life.

Nobody is debating Ball what's being debated is another instance where Jerome is uncomfortable with Black Players being free to represent themselves how they choose to do so.

His dialogue about no dreadlocks and tattoos is word for word with what was said to Cam Newton. 7 YEARS AGO.

He is not on another NFL roster.  Could talent be in play here?

Whoa.   Stop with this nonsense.   Didn’t just cut a guy.  It was “The Marcus Ball”.

Out of all of the 53 man rosters in the nfl he could easily be number 62 on any of them.   It’s a conspiracy.  Has everything to do with tattoos, dreadlocks and bojangles iced tea.

That’s exactly the point I was making. It starts off in defense of JR saying whatever I don’t care he wants a certain image because he prefers a clean cut organization. But when all information is looked at together, I now say ok it at least to me seems more clear that he doesn’t want the black guys to “look black” because he’s a piece of poo person.

Therein lies the difference to me.
