Shaq Thompson - Number 1 Gettleman Bust?

Btw, it wasn't really 20/20. Everyone knew safety was a big hole and even I wanted Collins. DG wiffed on a few obvious choices.

Man...everytime I get reminded that Shaq Thompson was drafted over Landon Collins my blood pressure spikes. He needs to be left in New Orleans.

He’s much better at TDs position that he is the “Buffalo Nickle”. I think he’s going to be pretty good going forward as TDs role is reduced

But when is TD role going to be reduced? He may have lost a step, but he's still a capable LB due to so many years being injured. We sort of did what @cableguy actually made a thread suggesting we do

Use a number 1 pick on a backup player

Yeah can’t argue that. I like him a lot but also thought we could have still gotten him in the second round. Definitely didn’t seem like the “best player available” like Gettlemans would always say.

Not his fault he was drafted to a team with 2 good starters in front of him.

And that's my biggest gripe with DG. First rounders shouldn't be drafted to provide additional depth to an already strong unit when you need serious help at other positions.

He's always there to tackle the guy after a catch...but not much else.

I remember wanting Preston Smith or a safety sooo bad that draft.  Freaking Landon Collins, Damarius Randall, Jaquiski Tartt.  Whatevs.

DG can undoubtedly spot talent and the blue goosers...but for some reason, not the for-sure studs.  It's weird with that guy.

I hate to crash the party

But he has looked dammed good at Weakside when TD has been out.

I remember TD, A safety turned LB struggled really bad at SLB as well then when moved over started to look like a probowler.  Shaq is going to be a stud down the road when TD retires.

The biggest bust is Bradberry.

They use the "he was hardly targeted last year, bis rookie year"  well that because the Other CB Worley was about the Worst CB in the league and was being targeted.

Bradberry has been exposed big time this year.  When front 7 isnt getting pressured.  Our secondary gets exposed as one of the worst in the league.

Were lucky we have a blitz happy DC.  Because if we relied on getting pressure in the front 4 and trust our secondary to hold up.  We'd be getting lit up like Mcaddenville in December

    • Such a dumb pick and most of us knew it Ladd would’ve been the perfect match with Bryce But instead they draft XL to fill the void at the X spot because we had a 34 year old Adam Thielen. Then a year later we draft a real X WR and move XL inside where he has absolutely no business being for a list of reasons
    • My logic was hopefully a new HC would have a LOT quicker hook for Bryce. But, that is assuming they would even be allowed. I guess that's a call to the owner's box for permission.
    • I’m not overly defending the pick. I was team Stroud by a country mile but I also knew what to expect as far as ceiling goes with Bryce  I had concerns with Bryce’s arm strength and size. Neither seem to overly be an issue. He’s proven to throw with enough anticipation that he makes up for a lack of velocity. I was worried about the way he played in college not translating to the league. Spending 8 seconds behind LOS. I did also think it would take Young a few years for him to reach his full potential. I also think he’s too smart and accurate to flat out bust which all of seems to be pretty accurate Bryce is someone you can absolutely win with. No one thought he’d be the type to carry a well below average supporting cast to a Super Bowl. He’s fully capable of giving you those 4-5 special plays a game that help your team win. And then you have those rare times where he’s the reason you win like in Atlanta.  All good teams have more than just a QB.  Even the teams that are winning this year all have a lot more than what we have. Supporting cast/defense… more than what we have  As far as Morgan goes I 100% agree. Fwiw he was legit team Bryce during the draft process. I know that for a fact. Last years draft is a complete write off. This past draft still up for debate. TMac and Scourton look solid. I can’t remember the last time I saw Princely win a rep and I’m being honest. Ransom has a little value. I think ETN is a nice insurance add. Evans could be a TE2.    I think this offseason Morgan will get aggressive with trying to land a pass rusher. Whether that’s a trade for Crosby, signing Hendrickson, it’s going to be top priority. We need a ILB. I really like Kaden Ellis. Sonny Styles should be in our draft range. We also need a tight end and it would be interesting to see this offseason with Kenyon Sadiq
