Receivers need to be #1 priority.

All of our RB's were ineffective this year. Do you think they are all bad or perhaps there were other reasons that they struggled? The only effective rusher we had all season was Cam Newton.

I think Stew was bad, because he wasn't good. He just sucks now. McCaffrey the jury is still out on.

That's not saying much, as Stewart was barely getting 2 ypc at the end of the Season. You say so, though. CAP sure isn't the answer I was hoping for.

meh, running backs can be gotten. Stew will always be a Panther but his time is dwindling, and CMC was a rookie...

True that Cam needs REAL receivers but our secondary got abused this year. The last game proved that when we ask our db’s to stop a top qb they can’t do it, and Brees/Ryan aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Watch the upcoming game with the Vikings, they will stuff the run and force Drew to throw it, difference being they have guys on the back end who can make plays.

DBs got abused in 3 straight games at the end.....all 3 were divisional QBs.   Don't forget even Winston had his way with them.

But I blame Wilks to a degree.  He put them in more bad spots than McD did.   Need a pass rusher at DE next year.

WR, DE, S, and RT IMO are the biggest needs.

I think we are def bring #1 WR in FA.  Watch for Josh Gordon.  Dude got his life straight and Norv used to be his OC before.

If you are looking at an AFC N receiver with a sketchy history then look for it to be Martavis Bryant. Truthfully I think he’s probably too much of a suspension risk as he’s close to Josh Gordon level at this point. But his talent is unquestionable.

So, you honestly believe that personal performances(from Stew, CMC, CAP and *Fozzy) were the majority of the reason that our running game struggled? Not "Shula ball", complete lack of WR threats to keep defenses honest or uneven OL play?

Take a look at how the first round round receivers did last season. Not too good.

I'm hoping for a FA or a trade for someone in front of Funchess and a draft pick behind him.

Marty should bug Mike Brown until he gives us AJ Green. Pipe dream, I know. Josh Gordon?  Had his career year in 2013 under Norv Turner. The only way I'd feel comfortable trading for Gordon is a heavily stipulated pick based on production or includes an automatic void should he fail another drug test.

Belichick traded for Moss after the 2006 season, got Cooks from the Saints. Wish we had whoever scouts WR's for Pittsburgh.

I'm w/you Igo, would definitely prefer a free agent or a trade for a proven wide receiver. I think we need to strongly consider trading for a legit number 1 stud. I mentioned AJ Green because he's only got two years left on his deal.

The Colts were apparently willing to trade T.Y. Hilton earlier in the year. He’s got a huge contract so not sure how that would effect what we’re trying to do at other positions...but talk about a perfect fit. Other than Brown at Pitt he’s probably the best deep ball receiver in the league and he’s a great route runner as well. He’s 28 and seems to be in his prime.

Receivers need to be the #1 priority this offseason.

Guys that can actually get open and catch the ball, novel concept I know.

We cannot rely on Byrd. His small frame has always been a concern, and the fact he could not stay on the field in his first real season does nothing to lessen the concern there.

Samuel doesn't look like a true receiver. Could he develop into one? Sure. But it is far from a given, and his injury concerns also make contingency necessary.

As such, this team needs to add 2 new starting caliber receivers. Someone in front of Funchess and someone behind him.

That is where the focus needs to be.

Without that, the offense will do nothing yet again. I don't care how much Ron wants to get back into a traditional run game. It won't matter if defenses can sleep on our receivers and come out on top.

The Patriots don't seem to value receivers all that much.  They are continually bringing in new guys.  Same with the Saints.  They let good skill position guys walk and they replace them with lower cost alternatives.  We went 15-1 without any big name wide receivers.  I see everyone in the media drooling when teams sign big named skill position players in the offseason and it usually results in that team being a disappointment (Ex. Bucs, Giants, many more).  I'm not sure if receivers should ever be our #1 priority.  We should continue to draft receivers.  We should continue to look at FA for good value guys.  But i'm not sure if we should make it a top priority.  I still believe in Gettleman's philosophy of always looking for big men, keeping your strengths strong, and defense being what wins championships.  If the QB has good protection, you don't need an All-Pro WR to get open and catch a football.  We also have young guys at the position that need experience and opportunities, so we don't need to do anything crazy.

    • I have seen little inclination that they are laying down on him, that I can agree with. I don't think we are going to ever see much in the way of unfiltered opinions in the public realm from his teammates because that's extremely rare and extremely toxic behavior.  It's certainly a positive thing that they support him but, again, that doesn't make a successful NFL starting QB. Playing well on Sunday's does.  That is what has been lacking to date. He is not playing well consistently enough to be considered an NFL starting QB. He has to improve there. Be more consistent. Be more decisive. Make correct decisions more frequently.
    • That's fine but for every Kurt Warner there are 10 Tony Banks that don't find their spot because....it never really existed.  Jake Browning was on and off practice squad teams for years until he stuck in Cincy. In his limited action over the past two seasons, he has played well enough that the Bengals panic traded for 41 year old Joe Flacco. It's easy to point to outliers like Warner or Purdy or Tom Brady as players who fell through the cracks because....well, they are outliers. The statistics over the long term have never really borne out the argument that every QB is just waiting for their perfect spot and situation. Most of these guys bounce around the league and it just never really clicks anywhere or they become marginal backup QB's. I don't think that exactly an accident. It's tough to be a starting NFL QB and it's why the hunt every offseason is so frantic. There are just so few that do it at a high level. My guess is that a theoretical market for Bryce Young(today) is going to look a lot like that post Chicago Justin Fields market. Not a lot of interest and a late round pick value at the highest. And a lot of that IS going to be his average to below average physical traits. It's extremely tough to be in that range and excel in the NFL. And it's precisely because you DO have to be closer to perfection to make up for the fact that you can't do a lot of the things that the elite to above average starters in this league do.
    • Im never not impressed by how confidently wrong you are. I've watched probably 200 NFL QBs play live. This talk about Bryce's arm strength is retarded, pure and simple. Bryce can make every throw an NFL QB needs to make in any circumstance. Does he have an arm that makes you go wow all the time? No, but very few QBs truly do. Bryce has plenty of zip on the ball when he wants. That TD to XL was a frozen rope. He throws to the opposite hash and outside all the time with no problem. Bryce's arm is objectively stronger than Cam's post-injury. I've seen both live multiple times and I know. And Cam could still play QB well without his rocket launcher. OPs point remains. QB success relies on a lot of nebulous things. Obviously you dont like Bryce. But his success is not going to be bc he doesn't have the arm strength. Its embarrassing this is a thing. Go to some games and actually educate yourself.
