If ever there was a draft to do it,  this might be the one.  That being said,  no way. For a first,  I want as sure of a thing as possible.  With his history, he is anything but. One more slip-up, and he's toast (as well as draft capital spent). I might discuss a second, and definitely a third because they're a little more speculative anyway, especially if they throw in a 4th or 5th.

This RB class is just as good and deep as last years, and I think Rosen is a better prospect than almost any QB in the last 5 drafts

Nailing free agency is a must but nailing the draft is more important.  Whether you agree or disagree teams are built through the draft.   Hurney is known for nailing the 1st pick an not much after that.  The DC, Turner, Rivera and Hurney need to be on the same page and get those players that can help.  

I think under the Rivera/DG watch we have overall done better with the draft.  1st round picks haven't been overshadowing like Hurney's but overall they did better.

Let's hope Hurney listens to his staff and not some Panther Forum that tells him to draft some obscure player from nowhere university that has the potential to be a perennial backup.

In truth, we will only know how good the draft class is two or three years after the draft has been completed.  As of now, its only a guess.

Maybe for picks in round 4 - 7 but Rounds 1 and 2 should be contributing right away and Round 3 should be rotational players.

From what I can tell, RB, TE, G, LB, and S are all very stout. You could argue that none of those positions are as good as last years, but last yeat will probably end up being one of the top drafts of all time.

For the most part though, it is a very weak looking draft. They've got a few very good prospects at the top, but not anywhere near as deep as usual. The position that jumps out as a weakness, to me, is edge rushers. When you don't have a can't miss, elite edge rusher in the class, that's tough. Chubb is a good prospect, but where would be ranked amongst the group last year? Somewhere between Barnett and Taco?

Whether its a good draft or not, and how much round 1-2 players should contribute are two somewhat different subjects.  

 

Since you brought it up though, I know that is what people think, but I am not sure that is the reality.  I read somewhere that less than half of 2nd round picks last a full four years in the NFL.  For third round picks, its less than 20%.  Just a guess on my part, but I would imagine that most of those that don't last four years probably aren't contributing very much early in their career.  They are probably in a situation where they are injured a lot or the team is trying to be patient, waiting on them to develop.  I would also hazard a guess that at least some of them that do last only last because the team feels it spent a first or second round pick on them, and they are willing to wait longer than they might on a later round pick, whether the player is deserving of that patience or not.  

 

Btw, I know that some of our fan base believes that either Gettleman or Hurney, or both are poor drafters, but I bet if you compare them to the rest of the league, that is not true.  I did see an article a few weeks ago that had our draft results for the last five years (four years of DG, one year of Hurney) as second overall in the NFL.

I’m hoping we can sign a veteran WR that can help day one. With Samuel and Byrd returning that is a position group that will be just fine if we can sign a starter.

Would love to get Stewart’s replacement, long term safety or even a #2 TE that help on the line and give Cam another weapon.

We also need a pass rusher. Either way I don’t think it’s too many holes to fill if we take the BPA according to our needs.
