Jonathan Stewart critiques last year's offense

Right— I’m thinking like Jerome Bettie time.

Then again, we have CMac,.. Norvs version of Marshall Faulk.

If we are running 25 times a game, CMac gets 10-15 carries, stewart 5-10 carries and Cam somewhere in the 5 carry category that would work.

we do need a younger version of Stewart—I just haven’t seen one.

Bettis is a prime example.

People talked about how effective he was, and early on in the season they were right.  But year after year, I watched him fade down the stretch.

The Steelers eventually just started using him in goal line duty.  That was a smart move on their part.  I suppose it's possible Stewart could stick around in that role but we'd still need a bruiser to take the bulk of the work.

Stewart has some really good moves on the goal line— we’ve all seen him really find a way to get in plenty of times.

hes underutilized as a pass catcher. I always go back to 440 yards 2011, and Chud has him at 5.4 yards per carry.

So im optimistic with Norv,... being his daddy and all.

i think if Stewart is saved until the second half of games and especially 4th quarter he will hold up much better.

the problem with a tank theory is when they are in, usually they can’t catch and it takes any surprise out of the play.

weve done to Stewart what Fox did to Foster—make them a tank and get them predictable and killed.

im hoping with reserved optimism that Norv will fix that.

Do not want Stewart on this team next year. We need a complete back that can function in the passing game too. It’s too predictable when JStew is in. RBs are affordable nowadays in FA and the draft is loaded with them. No reason to have him on the roster.

It wouldn't have been so predictable but for Shula.  Give Turner a chance with Stu.

I've been saying.  I believe Stewart is not done.

Giving the opportunity, Stewart will prove the OC was the issue not thr RB.

I agree it would be nice if we can somehow restructure his contract but either way I would keep him.

Subtract out the dead money that we lose if we cut him.   Are we going to get a back that is better?   Any back worth his salt is probably going to cost us more.

Then again, we are talking Hurney.

Ding ding ding

I do not understand the hate for Stew around here.  I really hope he stays but the contract is the issue. So hopefully we tack on another year to it to spread it out a little more. As well I do believe CMC is The guy now and Stew moves into more of a role where he compliments CMC

The people who say he's done pr say his vision is gone.  Only watched a Very small portion of the play.

Shula was the problem

No one realizes that Stewart led the League........#1..........more than anyone im Carries into Stacked Boxes.  Mismatches.  You may see him running into the OL azz but blindly ignoring the fact that 8-9 guys were taking on the OL clogging the holes.

Lets not forget as well that the previous 2-3 seasons..... He Again, led the league in broken tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

Stewart even though only got only about 3 yards on some carries this year, still showed flashes breaking tackles etc.     Not like Tolbert when he began to drop off where he was easily being taken down by DBs in the open despite being 60+ pounds heavier

This offseason is so damn good so far

1. Cam finally gets a legit QB coach who will help get rid of thpse small kinks people bash him for vs a BFF in practice in Dorsey

2. No more predictable play calling, then when gets in a hole tries to get too creative and F's something up

3. No more inept decision making, waiting to get the play to the field with under :08 on the play clock.  Rushing the offense, not allowing the QB to look and read the defense.  Putting OL at disadvantage letting DL and blitzers time the snap with the playclock getting that nice  jump.  Not allowing the QB to get up there and do hard counts trying to draw the Defense offsides.

I think Stewart is still a good running back.  I'm not convinced his catching is reliable.  He had some ball protection issues this year.  In the end, I think is running lack of production was poor scheme...and I believe Norv will fix that.

Stewart catches fine out of the backfield.   I think with CMC and an offense that prohibits stacked boxes Stewart will thrive in both running and receiving.
