Lower concession prices...Higher profits?

Mr. Scot

I prefer to go hungry whenever I'm at a game. Cost of travelling and ticket is enough for me to sit through the game with my stomach growling and no beer in me. I would be more inclined to buy tickets if I knew I could enjoy myself at the concessions.

The stupidity in this thread..

I have no idea how this impacted ATL's profits, neither does anyone else. But higher revenue doesn't mean more profit. In addition, lines at concessions are already crazy long at almost every stadium, so increasing volume probably requires more staff.

Are stadium drinks/food overpriced? Yeah. But just bc ATL tried a different model doesn't mean that it's working better for the team and the article definitely doesn't provide evidence that it is.

The stupidity in this post....

Did you read the article?

They also added self serve locations, and eliminated change as best they could to speed up the lines and that worked too.

And as others h e said, their margins are so high on this stuff that increased revenue absolutely means increased profits.  They're getting this stuff for pennies on the dollar considering how much they buy in bulk.

I love the guy asking if they bought the beers for $3 a piece if it would raise profits.  That's more than it costs you or me to buy one beer at the store, so why in the world would the Panthers be paying that much buying in bulk from a distributor?

This is a simple one guys, they made more money, they made lines easier, and fans got more for their money too.

Every team in every sport SHOULD Abe following this model in the near future, as it's going to make them more money, they all just needed one person to try it first and  prove it right.

Not uh, man! Everyone knows only bourbon barrel aged limited releases are sold at the stadiums. Three dollars is a good deal!

Exactly.

But if beers cost the venue $3, did they make more profit or did people just spend more money?

They use US Foods. Having multiple restaurants with US foods as my provider, they could make a really good gourmet burger and it would cost them 2 dollars. Or a cheap burger would cost them 80 cents. I think if the Panthers/Hornets dropped their prices by 40%, there would still be more than enough profit margin.

Beer is the same, they probably only have 8-10% cost in the beer for what they sell it at currently.

Fun fact: in NC you have to charge all customers the same price for products with no volume discounts. So, no it's not 8-10%.

Then coke is breaking the law because I've seen what they charge canteen versus what they charge me

Can you point me to this law so I can bring it up with my rep? I just assumed big companies get the breaks

I'm not an Arthur Blank fan for one specific reason: the team owner should not be walking the sidelines during a game.

Remember this?

That being said -- he has done a phenomenal job with the Benz stadium here in town compared to that poo-hole that the GADome was.  And the ATL soccer team games?  THAT'S a party. Highly recommended.  So while I don't care for him as the Falcons' owner, I'll give him props for the other stuff.

For the dome -- the food choices are great, the prices were "normal".  Where before, we'd make it a point to buy maybe one beer for the CARvATL game and no food 'cause stadium food normally stinks -- at The Benz we'll probably go earlier than normal to get some Antico pizza or Farmburger burger (or whatever else seems right that day).

This is me before and at every Panther game.  My son and I will stop to pick up food on the way in, eat in the parking lot then go into the stadium.  I would definitely choose to simply eat inside if I wasn't going to get gouged by the prices.  When it comes to buying a beer or two... I rarely ever by two cause again I hate pay $8.50 each so paying $17 for two is just to much.  Sometimes I skip getting beer all together and simply buy the unlimited soda (and usually share that with my son)

I definitely would spend more inside the stadium if prices were not so much.

I skip alcohol at stadium/arena events now and just pre-game to the best of my ability. I envy everyone who's happy just sipping a Bud Light or two over the course of three hours, but I gotta drop like $30 to even thinking about getting a good buzz and that's no bueno.

From http://atlantarestaurants.blog.ajc.com/2017/07/13/what-are-concession-prices-at-mercedes-benz-stadium-for-the-2017-season/

These are the "stadium concession pricing". The specialty bars/restaurants all have higher prices for their products.

So you're looking at $7+ for a "good" beer. $11 for a BBQ platter (meat smoked on property), etc...
