CBS Mock Draft

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Mock Drafts in early February...yeah. This one even includes a trade up by the Cardinals.

CBS has us taking UTEP guard Will Hernandez to replace Norwell.

CAR.png24. Carolina Panthers

Will Hernandez, G, UTEP. The Panthers could lose excellent left guard Andrew Norwell in free agency this offseason, and if that happens, bringing in a top talent at the position to play next to mediocre left tackle Matt Kalil should be a top priority. Hernandez is a rock-solid interior lineman with plus run-blocking ability who should be a long-term starter in the NFL, even if he comes from a less-heralded college program.

I've heard a lot of good things about Hernandez so I wouldn't complain. Kind of chuckled that they had a safety named "Ronnie Harrison" going to the Patriots (bet he's a dirty player).

The full mock is here.

Reaching for a guard in R1 is worse than getting another DT or LB. Well, maybe I wouldnt mind getting Roquan Smith .

Id take literally any other position group. That makes 0 sense. Too many halfway decent guards to be had in the mid rounds to pull this kind of stunt and pass right over Christian Kirk or Ronnie Harrison

Watch Will Hernandez YouTube vids at UTEP or in the Senior Bowl, He's an absolute monster. I do think we look for a guy with more position flexibility as Hernandez is All Guard, but a very good one with pro bowl potential. Billy Price G/C, Isaiah Wynn G/T, Frank Ragnow C/G, James Daniels C/G are some flexible O-line I think we should consider if Norwell leaves.

Are you certain Hernandez is a reach at that spot?

With Billy Price on the board - who can definitely be our future center and fill in at guard - I'd be very surprised to see us not take him if we're going for Kalil's replacement early.

My question is how deep are the other positions of need in this draft. Other than DE and RB I don't know if taking a G/C is smart cause there isn't many, or if passing on an elite Safety or WR would be ok if there's good depth at that position.

Seriously the only positions I've heard are good depth and skill are RB, QB, and DE/DT types. Even 4-3 DE seems weak.

I completely agree. Hernandez is raw but he could become a better player at the next level with NFL coaching and training. If the Panthers take a Guard early I would bet my money its for Billy Price. Quenton Nelson seems to be the top Guard coming out.
