Agree with cutting CJ and Shepard, no doubts there. Coleman, ehhh, I'd still keep him around  for his experience and veteran presence in the locker room. I want to keep Kalil and Stew on for next year simply bc if we can win it all they both would finally get rings.

Coleman clearly fell off in terms of coverage this year. He made Mike Adams look like a pro bowler. I agree with all of these. Would probably leave us room to keep Norwell and find a WR/CB/DE.

Thought i was the only who noticed that, kalil is a shell of his former self not worth almost 10 million dollars against the cap for one more year when larsen was steady in his absence. Its a no brainer to me to let him go.

Sadly I agree

with his injuries (and a neck injury at that) and the wrong side of 30, combined with missing a lot of time the past two years, this won’t end well for Ryan or the Panthers

if the Patriots success has taught anything, there is no such thing as a farewell tour in the NFL and I hope whoever the Panthers GM is does what needs to be done

This is the mentality of franchises without rings.

This. Let's burn up over $10M in available cap space to keep players just because they're good guys.

If it wasn't for the hard salary cap, hell I'd be all for it. Then again, if it wasn't for the hard salary cap small market teams like the Panthers couldn't even come close to being able to afford to compete.

I'm wondering if Coleman was struggling with some injuries down the stretch. He looked a lot better earlier in the season than he did later in the season.

Well Gettleman tried to do this with TD and Olsen and then got fired. No GM is good if JR is still overseeing operations. The new owner needs to come before signing a new GM.

He is a New York Gman can we let him go now??

Lucas said he's glad he's getting some discussion going on his articles.

Anyhow, we're definitely going to have to make some cuts. Ideally, we keep Norwell and protect Cam Newton, which should be our priority. But who knows now.

Whoever's the next GM has a lot on his plate.

You don't pay a dedicated special teamer the money that Shepard is making. We absolutely expected him to make an impact at WR and a big part of selling him on coming to the Panthers was giving him more of an opportunity at WR.

Oh... and he was tied for 86th in the NFL last season for special teams tackles with 7.

Of all the players on that list, he's the easiest decision IMO.

Like it or not, that's what happened.  If you remember when he was signed, they said he was brought in mostly for his ST prowess and to compete for time at WR.  Sure, they expected better play at WR than they got from him, but he wasn't expected to be anything more than a #4 receiver at best.  We already had KB and Funchess at #1 & 2, and they clearly planned to upgrade #3 since they took one with their 2nd round pick and a receiving back at #8.  I don't think anyone honestly thought he would be anything more than serviceable.

So, my point is that his primary role here was always ST, with receiver being the icing.  It was never planned that his main focus would be at WR.  So, those that are evaluating him solely at WR didn't fully understand the plan for him.  You have to look at his complete game.  Now, if you want to say that his overall game isn't worth his contract, then that is a more legitimate reason for wanting him cut instead of it being because of mistakenly thinking he was always meant to be a WR first and ST ace second.

I would offer Kalil a chance to play for about $3.5 m or be cut.  Release the rest.

This is very similar to a thread that just ran through this page---if Marty is here, he will try to  hang on his draft picks--Kalil, Stew, CJ---unless he has matured.  The best GMs take emotion out of the equation--you earn your contract for current play and expected performance--not reward for glory days.
