This piece of shyt is a convicted felon and never, I repeat never, should be allowed to own an NFL Franchise.

Debartolo had no skill as an owner other than in the pre-salary cap era he spent more money to stock the 49ers roster than other owners did.

fug this POS.

Governor Edwards tried to extort DeBartolo and he wanted the riverboat license so much he gave in and paid the money and was charged for not reporting a felony (the extortion) and had a ridiculous penalty for that just because he was a billionaire. The real criminal in that was Edwards not DeBartolo. DeBartolo was wrong but it did not at all make him a PoS. It was pretty bogus frankly.

And to be clear at this point I would probably lean towards Navarro. Eddie is 71 and while he probably wouldn't have it sold if he dies relatively soon after he were to buy it, even worse is that it could go to his kid(s) or someone else in the family and that's how you wind up with a terrible owner situation (shown by the example already in his own family in Jed York running the 49ers). But I guarantee you if Eddie bought the team we'd have a championship within his first 5 years as owner and Cam and Luke's years here wouldn't be wasted. Guaranteed.

Love your take, grew up a 49er fan eh?

I did a little research on the sale of the Bills to try and frame what's going on with the Panthers sale.  Here's some of what I found.

  • Ralph Wilson's heirs put the team up for sale in May of 2014 using Morgan Stanley as their broker
  • A total of sixty non-disclosure agreements were signed by potential buyers who expressed an interest in the team
  • When the time came for actual bids to be made, there were only three, and one (Trump) reportedly backed out shortly thereafter
  • The fanbase was angered when it was leaned that one of the bidders (Jon Bon Jovi) despite promising to keep the Bills in Buffalo, commissioned a feasibility study for Toronto
  • Morgan Stanley actually ended up extended the bidding period due to lack of serious activity.  Forbes magazine at that point called the team sale process "a circus".
  • In the end, there was really only one serious option, the Pegulas.  They wound up owning the team and, at least so far, things seem to be looking up.
  • The team sold in early September, approximately four months after the initial offering, for over 1.1 billion

Searching "Buffalo Bills sale timeline" is where I found a lot of this info if you wanna look for yourselves.

I actually feel bad for Bon Jovi. He was never going to move the team to Toronto. It has come out that rumor was all a smear campaign by Trump. It got so bad up here they stopped playing Bon Jovi on the radio.

Count me on the Navarro train. Seems like a genuinely good person, doesn’t have a big obnoxious personality, and would be a smart, safe choice with connections to the Carolinas. Also not 1,000 years old, so would provide some long term stability.

20 years from now Jerry Richardson  might be eligible and elected to the NFL HOF having never been "convicted" of anything while in control of the Panthers. Debartolo was a felon as an owner, tied to gambling, forced to abandon his ownership of the 49ers only to be reinstated by Goodell.

Mr Moral Man comes to save the day! I'm perfectly fine with a Super Bowl Championship unless the owner can be convicted of killing someone or doing something else egregious. Gambling isn't nearly as serious as you made it out to be. You'd think he killed someone the way you worded this poo.

That's actually kind of a sorry list to pick from. Navarro over DeBartolo/Fertitta, IMO. I don't really want any part of the rest of that group.

Well to be honest, this was always going to be a small sample. There's not a huge list of people that have a few billion dollars to throw around.

Even if one or two don't wind up making bids, we'll still have more options than the Bills did.

Well, we HOPE that is the case. Hard to say at the moment because it might end up being just as big of a shitshow as their sale was.
