Efe Obada

With the news of Charles Johnson being released and our DE position just got thinner.   I started to think about Obada.  Seems he has some talent and performed well last preseason.   I would hope the Panthers have him in their plans to be on the 90 man roster going into 2018.

I need for one of you roster gurus to explain the International player exemption we got for Efe Obada.

Seems I thought we don't have any rights to him and that he can sign anywhere he wishes this season.

Is that correct thanks , if not, enlighten me.

The international exemption was for last season.  Odaba was given a futures contract to compete for a spot next season so the staff will likely get an extended look during the off season.

It's a shame he was so far behind on technique and the nuances of the position because he is freakishly long and athletic.

I honestly don't remember him playing...Cox Jr. has some potential, but was very raw last season.  Funny how we give our draft picks (Hardy, Johnson) 3 years to come around and we have to give up on rookies/sophs so quickly.

We haven't given up on our young ends. I think it all boils down to tough, situational roster decisions. I mean, we've cut Horton before. But I don't believe that the team is in the business of letting young prospects that they project will absolutely be impact players be poached,  especially at such an important position.

I remember last preseason he had a great sack where he completely blew past an OT.  I was like, this guy looks interesting!

At this point, leave no stone un-turned.  Hopefully he comes back for more coaching.

I do think that this offseason and preseason may tell the story of whether Obada's for real though.  He has to make a jump.  Cox's development is of course greater,  and for some reason everyone seemingly wants to overlook Daeshon Hall,  like he's done afterthought or something.  He's next in line more than likely, unless we can get Key or someone.

In the preseason games he played, he was dyyyyynomite. He needs more discipline but that man has a very quick burst. I am excited for him. To have Washington coach him up last year, I cannot wait to see how much progress has he made.

JJ Walker?  You must be serious.  I did not watch much preseason---will see what I can find.  Good deal.

I am also excited about Horton's development.  He has quietly developed into a solid rotational DE.

I went to my NFL Films vault (YouTube) and found his game vs. Houston.  He had some good plays.  He has the size...He was in Atlanta's camp a year earlier--was not as good for them.  Maybe.

We shall see finger crossed. He is still very green to football.

Thanks.  Saw he was on our roster but so was CJ.   It is good he is under contract with us to compete for a roster spot.   While I don't hang onto him making the 53 man roster initially I do hope he makes the practice squad to start out.

Guys develop and if we can keep JP one more season he'll have the best mentor in the league.

I hope he turns out to be a blessing for us.   Would really make a difference going into 2018.

    • I presented that scenario because this is a home game and we seemed to have improved in some capacity in that area as of recently. The problem with the possibility of sweeping the Bucs is this team has had a habit of quickly falling victim to momentum shifts. The Bucs are coming off a bitter loss the same as the Panthers but the Bucs have a much better proven track record this time of year and they have performed when the pressure is on unlike our Panthers. We have a shot against the Seahawks here in BOA but that is a matchup that could quickly get out of hand because they are a well coached team and that goes back to the momentum shifts I mentioned. I just don't see this team beating the Bucs in their stadium to close the season. Tall order to say the least.
    • I’d give it another year for Sanders and Evans, I don’t much care what you do with Tremble’s spot. Let him have another year or maybe replace him. Haven’t looked at his contract so that may be the determining factor.
    • Following the crazy up down pattern we finish 9-8 with an improbable sweep of TB, and lay an egg in the home playoff game.  I don’t know if I can sign on to sweeping TB but I suppose it’s possible, they aren’t really that good this year.    ps I can buy beating TB Sunday and losing to Seattle.  Then it just gets to can you fluke one game. Any given Sunday. So we’ll see.
