I can guarantee you Kalil will get hurt before week 3.  Back problems are serious and chronic and there is no cure.  I have a back problems still 15 years after car wreck and my back only gets inflamated when I play very physical sports and lift weights.  Once he puts too much stress on his back, it will feel like someone stubbed him in his back and it will need weeks of rest for sharp pain to subside.

This decision has nothing to do with the last 2 years and everything about 2018. I would hope that Hurney's decision is totally based on knowing what happened to Kalil this year and whether he is over whatever was the problem. No one can predict with any certainty whether a player will get hurt or not. The last 4 games our offense seemed pretty decent and we all agree when healthy he is very good. So I hope he can stay healthy this year otherwise he needs to go and soon. He has a 1.5 million roster bonus  due on 3/15/18.

He said GOOD. There was a very noticeable difference in performance when Ryan was in the lineup.

  I don’t have huge faith in Larsen.

We’re not in need of cap space right now and Kalil will be a FA next year.

But that said, if he were on just about any other team he'd probably have been cut already after last season.

It'd certainly be great to see him go out looking good, but I'm not really expecting that, and betting on that could be a big mistake.

I say let the man play out his contract. If he's healthy, he makes a huge difference; one of the best. If he's not healthy, that's football. His contract is far from our biggest issue; hell, it's not even our biggest Kalil issue.

I really don't see how you can cut Johnson, Colman, and Stewart and not cut Kalil. We have two Centers behind him and it would open up room to be more competitive.

Especially given how many games he missed last year.
