The Forgotten Man: Taylor Moton

With the exit of Norwell, and the vacancy left on the line, it's been posts about free agents, posts about drafting o-line at #24 but I very rarely see ANY mention of Taylor Moton who basically red-shirted for us last season...

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/taylor-moton?id=2557871

The man is a mountain and is almost the exact same size as Norwell (Moton 6'5'' / 320) I don't believe he was taken in the 2nd to just be a future tackle, with Kalil set to start out left, and Williams who solidified himself as a legit tackle on the right, Moton's flexibility to play inside out is something that was touted by scouts as a prospect even before we selected him 64th overall. In all honesty he reminds me of the flexibility Travelle Wharton provided as a guy who was able to play LT/LG well.

I still think pick #24 is going to be designated for the hopes of an additional offensive weapon as I believe the Smith trade was insurance / veteran presence in case the draft doesn't fall our way, and with that in consideration, Larsen is also a swing G/C who played well for us during Kalil's absence last season. I'm not as worried about the OL as some, I think we are positioned well to translate well into next season, I also believe they will still look to add youth/depth in the middle rounds.

Forget this "future OT" crap. We need to put our best 5 OL on the field. If that means playing Moton at OG then so he it. Plenty of players have moved positions on the OL during their careers.

Lol now it’s “forget this future OT crap” but just yesterday and all last offseason no one wanted Whitworth because Kalil was younger.

Kalil might even end up retiring before Whitworth and that’ll just make this hilarious.

Agreed. He hasn't even played LT in college so why would we be concerned with him being the future there?

Which is why we need to draft LT...

Your constant negativity has completely stripped you of objectivity and reason. I said yesterday that I wanted Whitworth over Kalil. Playing Moton at OG this season doesn't mean you're restricted to playing him at OG and only OG in the future.

Seriously, if I was as negative as you are I'd just stop. Find something to do with your time that you actually enjoy.

Who says I don’t enjoy this Billy Blinders?

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
