Everyone seems well aware of what our current holes for 2018 are but looking one more year into the future shows many more that will need to be filled soon.

Heres every player of any significance on Offense and D under contract past this season.

  • QB: CAM, under contract thru 2021
  • HB: McCaffrey under contract thru 2021 (Assuming we exercise 5th year option)
  • WR: Torey Smith thru 2019
  • LT: Matt Kalil thru 2021 (potential out year for team would be after 2019 season)
  • RG: Trai Turner thru 2021

Thats it for offensive starters, Moton and Samuel will be under contract thru 2020.

  • DE- Addison thru 2020
  • DT- Short thru 2021
  • DT- Poe thru 2020
  • MLB: LUKE thru 2021
  • OLB- Shaq Thompson thru 2019 (we must exercise 5th year option)
  • CB- Bradberry thru 2020(assuming we exercise 5th year option)

Thats it for starters on defense. Still have Butler thru 2019, with team 5th year option for 2020, plus Corn Elder and Daeshon Hall thru 2020.

We are currently scheduled to have in the neighborhood of 50+ Million in cap space next season as it sits right now. This is the most I can remember us having since 2011 following the  new CBA. We will have to replace retiring players, Peppers, Davis, Ryan Kalil, and possibly Olsen as well who is scheduled to be a free agent after this year. In addition to that Funchess will have to be extended or replace by 2019 as well on top of our current holes.

Next offseason is looking like it will be one of the craziest in our history.

Add in the rookie class from this year as well. I’d assume 1st rounder is a starter and maybe one more.

Impossible to predict which postions they will be at this point. It’s also plausible Samuel,Moton and maybe even Hall can become full time starters by 2019 as well but of course we can’t bank on that.

Bradberry won't have a 5th year option since he was taken in the second round and not the first.

Anyways this is a big draft for us to add some young talent to the organization. Marty usually hits on his guy in round 1 but lets hope he has a little better luck with the rest of the picks this year

Projected to have 64.5 million or so in cap space in 2019, but needing to re-sign D. Williams, Funch, Olsen (?), and replace TD, Kalil, Peppers, and maybe our LT after a potential June 1st cut of Matt Kalil (OTC says we save 8 million doing this).

Going to be major changes for sure

That 50+ million number doesn't count Poe or Shaq, Real number will be low  to mid 30s. This years draft (plus consideration for next) and we'll be in about the same shape we started this year.

    • Roger all that. Do you think BY avoided any sacks last game? This oline is not what you're touting them to be. They are much better then 2023! Much much much better than 2023. But come on now, you'd expect this expensive oline (most are run blocking specialist) to at least dominate in the run game every game.  And... I keep telling you our WRs and TEs are not that good yet. I mean last Sunday was a prime example. Our receiving targets never make plays like those. Never. And this is from one of the worst teams in the league. Shough could have easily had 3 INTs if not for his receivers making plays on the ball. Our guys just don't do that. XL almost allowed an INT backing up out of bounds instead of coming to the ball. And everyone would have blamed that on BY. That's why he doesn't throw to that dude. I can't recall a game except maybe the second Falcons game - maybe, where I thought our receivers could possibly be better than the other team's. I think TMac and Coker have a lot of potential. But they're aren't consistent. But they're young and WILL improve. I'm confident of that.  I don't agree that BY was drafted to only stand in the pocket. He has always been best off schedule - for better or worse.
    • Do you think you will get a direct answer?  Icky giving up 5 pressures (playing hurt in his defense) by himself and Bryce only getting sacked once tells you he played well in the pocket.  He extended plays and converted some tough downs.
    • I've been very apprehensive about potentially firing yet another head coach. But Canales needs to focus on being a head coach first and foremost and begin handing off some responsibilities like playcalling duties and begin overseeing the entire team or we need to assess all possible ideal HC candidates in the offseason.
