Chatter for Top TEs in Draft

Untouchable

Recommended Posts

A position the Panthers are likely to target on draft day, Pauline summarized his conversations with multiple scouts about the top TEs in the draft in the link below.

http://draftanalyst.com/tight-end-boards-it’s-anyone’s-guess

Quick Summary:

-First wave is Mike Gesicki, Dallas Goedert, Hayden Hurst.  Anyone's guess what order.  Gesicki's negatives are with blocking and route running.  Panthers met with Goedert and he is viewed by some scouts as more complete than Gesicki with upside.  Hurst is viewed as the "safe" pick by some scouts.

-Second Wave: Ian Thomas, Dalton Shultz, Mark Andrews.  Thomas likely first to go in this group and likely needs time but could be best of draft class.  Shultz can help immediately on all three downs.  Andrews is underrated and a viewed as a poor blocker.

EDIT: For reference of where the prospects are expected to fall in the draft, I posted on the draft board a while back about the article he did saying where the prospect were setting up going into the combine according to scouts in the following link.

Quick Summary:

1. Dallas Goedart, Possible late 1st

2. Ian Thomas, Indiana, Possible Top-42 Pick

3. Hayden Hurst, SC, Possible Top-45

4. Mike Gesicki, PSU

5. Mark Andrews, Oklahoma & Dalton Shultz, Stanford, Possible late 3rd

Schultz in the 3rd could be nice. I now think that we go TE in the 5th, maybe Fumagalli from WI, or Hurndon (who looks like a good fit as a TE2) from Miami.

Would love Herndon. I think he’s very underrated.

I Love the idea of Schultz in the 5th

Dude can block- was a Huge key in the run game for CMC and Love at Stanford

While he hasnt shown much in the passing game, reports are the Stanford staff say he has all the tools and talent to be a playmaker in the passing game- Panthers current WR coach was the stanford RB coach.  So he was one of those guys who saw what he couod do block8ng for his RBs and what he could do as a recieving threat in practice

    • The year he had another edge rusher opposite him in Reddick, Reddick ended up having more sacks. Burns was good at rushing the passer here but he was taken out of plays far too often by a single TE or you'd never even known he was in the game at all.  The Rams offer was equivalent to prime Khalil Mack or a TJ Watt. Those guys single handedly took over games and stopped drives. I can't remember a game Burns ever did that. Do we wish we had the level of production hes giving right now? Of course. Do I think we'd have it here. No.  At the time, his production was on par with Reddick, not Parsons. Pay production and incentivise potential.
    • Technically our guys are in the top 6 in sacks for rookies and Scourton is tied for the lead.
    • That's why so many said he wasn't worth it here, there was only DB and it wasn't enough. If Burns is feasting then the other guys in NY are doing enough already, Burns is just collecting the stats. It's what he eas built for and is finally in his perfect space to succeed. Im not as in on the new guys yet. More is an understatement but the good news is that they are rookies.
